It got better when I graduated, but I decided to be less out when I moved further south for college. My first week there, I met a girl from not far from my hometown. I liked her and came out to her when the flirting got heavier. She said she figured and that it meant we could only be friends. She changed her mind 3 days later. We've now been married over a decade.

  • Our eldest is now the same age I was when I submitted the anonymous, "What is homosexuality?" question. They are straight, but they love being an ally and hanging out afterschool with "the gays," who seem to enjoy the company in return. They talk with our child about their home lives and fear of coming out to parents knowing our house is a safe space for them if/when they need it. Most of the kids in the group are out and proud. Coming out is a big TikTok event. It's so fucking surreal.
