Our eldest is now the same age I was when I submitted the anonymous, "What is homosexuality?" question. They are straight, but they love being an ally and hanging out afterschool with "the gays," who seem to enjoy the company in return. They talk with our child about their home lives and fear of coming out to parents knowing our house is a safe space for them if/when they need it.
Most of the kids in the group are out and proud. Coming out is a big TikTok event. It's so fucking surreal.

To me, that's why #Pride - like all honorary months - are important. They force us to revisit uncomfortable pasts so we do not keep making the same mistakes for today. I'm grateful for the LGBTQIA who came before me. They made it possible for teenagers in the Constitutional ban on gay marriage era help a country boy figure out a thing or two about himself. I hope we do right by their memory. Thanks for reading along. ๐ฉท๐๐ ๐ณ๏ธโ๐๐ณ๏ธโโง๏ธ
