When The Last Jedi came out one of my biggest complaints was the characterization of Luke Skywalker; gone was the hero who saw the good in everything and personified Hope, replaced by a grumpy old man who failed at everything. This depiction was especially jarring if you had read the Timothy Zahn series and subsequent novels. Skip forward to Lanterns and the way Hal Jordan is being portrayed. He isn’t exactly the same grumpy old man but very similar. Watching the first episode made me realize this is how younger generations perceive Gen X guys: grumpy old men who can barely be motivated to share their knowledge and just want to be left alone.
