I've been working in free software (that's what "open source" was called before the idea was sold to big tech) for some 30 years and many if not most advancements have come from the USA.
Needless to say many USA friends of mine have been and still are fighting this battle with us. I really don't get the USA angle when talking about free software.
We should be looking at licenses and organizational structures.

@janneke@todon.nl I don't get not taking the current political situation into account when talking and thinking about tech. That doesn't answer the question of what to do, though. And for that I do believe in doing good things ("fighting the good fight" doesn't feel appropriate) with people of good will, wherever they may live.
