I don't mean anything nefarious by this, i promise. i'm just curious for those that picked a new name, i wonder how many choose a name that starts with the same character as their old name or is otherwise phonetically similar

@wyatt@soc.megatokyo.moe In my egg days when I first thought about naming my fursona, I named her Mina, which *did* start with the same letter as my deadname. When I realized my fursona's name doesn't need to be related to my "real" name (still deep in the eggshell) I renamed her to Luna in a full moon night looking out of the window. Soon after that I created my Twitter account, and following the old "don't use your real name on the internet" advice I named it after my fursona. By the time I realized I'm transgender, I was already widely using the name Luna online, and my fursona was what I wanted to be in real life anyway (transspecies), so I just took that as my real chosen name then. And since last year that name is also government recognized.
