My father was a child during WWii, when Germany occupied Denmark. The Nazi party was an extreme right-wing party. The word 'Socialist' in their name was just a smokescreen. You know, like a hot dog isn't actually a dog? Or how the Democratic People's Republic of Korea isn't actually a democracy? The Nazis imprisoned and killed real socialists. 1/2

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social So let the maga not scare us with communism—after all, I think all the countries in the Eastern Bloc had “democratic” in their names. And East Germany was democratic because it had that in its name, while West Germany wasn’t. The U.S. has never been democratic because it doesn’t have that in its name.

National socialists were socialists. Nazism was created by A.H. as a totalitarian ideology. It has only few points in common with original national socialism and socialism wasn't exactly one of them.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social Calling the socialist moniker a "smokescreen" is, IMHO, still too abstract. It was marketing blather, like "New and Improved!" or "Advanced Formula!" or, "As Seen on TV!" -- insincere to the extent it wasn't utterly meaningless. Indeed, I feel the word "conservative" is itself marketing blather, lending respectability to politics and ideas that have none. There is nothing "conservative" about white supremacy, or racism, or misogyny, or any of that. It's just disgusting.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social Also, another thing to point out when others claim that Nazis were socialist is that they're purposely leaving out the prefix of that term, or the "Na" in nazi, which is National-Socialist. It was never socialist by itself, but always national socialism, which is just a cheeky backwards Nazi way of saying fascism.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social A lot of closeted fascists would LARP as socialists throughout history, and I think that's partially why so many socialist movements spiraled into fascism. (Russia, Italy, Korea, etc.) Also I think that hate for the system turns into just genuine raw hate (like the French or Russian Revolution) and when hate gets lost in confusion, you get fascism.
