@DM_Zeppelin@dice.camp it's not driven by (eg) Discord. It's driven by idiots in governments like mine, who are indeed doing it "for the children", as a kneejerk reaction to appease voters, and when we pointed out all these privacy problems that would result from the policy they stuck their fingers in their ears.
It's the same motivation as machete bans in my home state: be seen to be addressing a problem, regardless of whether the solution is actually effective or has unintended side effects

@Hyperlynx@aus.social I didn't say Discord. Though, it's the big one right now. It's everything, everywhere. If people don't support the platforms that use it, they'll lose money. It's the only language they understand. Will my holding out make a difference? No, not likely. But, I'll be able to sleep at night. Imagine the possibilities: Connecting you to your social media through Discord and then using your identity to track you through Flock cameras if they don't like you...
