@intothewestaway@mastodonapp.uk I was scrolling through CBC Gem's sports offerings, and saw Mackenzie Barwell is doing a thing tomorrow for Canada's pro cricket tournament. Seems OneSoccer/CanPL is contributing not just to the soccer ecosystem, but also to the sports ecosystem more broadly. I do not normally watch cricket, but I'll be checking it out. I'm also impressed that they've organized a pro competition for a sport that is still pretty niche in Canada.

  • @hewer_of_code@mstdn.ca That is really cool. 1 billion or so cricket fans in the rest of world may question the niche thing. OneSoccer can be a good competitor to TSN in the areas that aren't full on money makers for TSN and owned by Rogers or Bell. Forge fans were spoiled watching Mackenzie develop as a really good sports broadcaster. She did in game hosting at McMaster, got the gig as an in game host at Forge. She did a ton of podcasting with players and coaches at the club. She did 2 years of Behind the Beard, where she quizzed and shot the breeze with Bobby. Incredibly fun stuff. All while still at uni. In her last year McMaster, she got a gig as a student intern at the World University Games in Turin in 2025. She was hired right into OneSoccer out of school. She does a CBC show Soccer North interviewing men and women players. The kid's alright. As you can tell I am a fan.
