@melioristicmarie Calling a job “mandatory service” doesn’t change it from being an exchange of labour for money, it just means the person working is being forced into it. And who decides “the prevailing wage”? Because right now, minimum wage is the standard in a lot of cases. If your answer is the government, then how do you plan on forcing a government that (regardless of party) has been allergic to raising the minimum wage to pay out well above the current standard?

    @melioristicmarie@tech.lgbt Removing people’s ability to choose isn’t prosocial, it’s antisocial. People have a right to their own body, and if you’re willing to weaken that right in a case you support, you’re opening the door (which is already open) to other people discarding it in the same way for their own purposes.
