I hope this takes off and people start using “tweet” and “twitter” again and it makes “x” completely irrelevant like his Hitler salute should have Edit: it cost $20 to join?! I’m out

Yay, another centralized service owned by investors. And they want to build on “trust” lmao. Fuck off.

A new and notable feature is the automated fact-checking tool, a Gemini-based “veracity engine for real-time analysis” (“Vera” for short), which runs on every tweet. oh wow i can’t see how this could go wrong! /s the whole site honestly reeks of vibecoded in an afternoon too. still extremely funny tho, i hope they win their case

New logo looks like shit compared to the old one

Lol. It’d be hilarious if this succeeded. It was so dumb of Musk to change the name.

2022: Come on, it’s just 8$ it’s basically the price of a coffee. 2026: Come on, it’s just 20$ it’s basically the price of a coffee.

The Gemini that got Google sued and found liable for the misinformation it spread? That’s who you wanna trust to check for “veracity”?

So, I’m just checking… It is not open source? It uses AI to “Fact-Check”? It costs 20$ to join, and possibly more later? Well, they have chosen interesting path those people behind this thing.

It seems like maybe the commenters here thus far are missing the (obvious from the title) fact that this is not affiliated with Musk or “X” at all? I admire the aggressiveness of this move and I’ll be rooting for them.

If it wasn’t $20 to join, I might have tried it. But considering they haven’t even finished their core case saying whether or not they’re even allowed to use the branding yet, and they’re trying to get $20 or $40 out of every new user, I’m going to pass. I will check back at a later date to see its progress, but right now I don’t think it’s worth it.

@kestrel7_7@lemmy.world 2026-08-27 06:39
I did always think it was stupid that he bought a site with pretty great branding (twitter/tweets/the bird graphics etc) and immediately got rid of most of that branding.

i don’t care about that social media platform. but i do hope that new twitter becomes more popular than musk twitter. from a technical standpoint they both seem shit with AI and pay to play. but at least its not musk and i would hope he gets quite a bit pissed if new twitter takes a good slice of his matket.

All the criticisms are completely valid and yet I’m so fucking down for this.

He gave up the name so that we stop using it to refer to his pile of shit.

A Masto instance would have been cool. But that is just garbage.

Should’ve been a Nitter instance

And I’m going to keep dead naming X as Twitter until Musk stops dead naming his daughter. I never used the site in the first place, but that’s besides the point.
