I’ve made it to the point where I’ve removed the optical drive without breaking anything!
Interestingly, it uses a standard SATA connection rather than some proprietary flat flex cable for data. No idea if the protocol it uses is SATA though, and I don’t have the tools or energy to plug this into a PC at the moment. Maybe in the future.

Running out of places to put different screws in the lid of my toolkit, and of course, this drive uses a few more different types of screws, so I'm gonna get that update CD burned so I can swap out the disc and get things re-assembled right away!
