@litchralee_v6@ipv6.social @philpem@digipres.club Its not "technically" a thing, a Winmodem was a slang term for a CPU bound soft modem that only worked in Windows. There were also Linmodems, same shitshow, but the manufacturer provided a Linux driver that was probably hell to get working. But your CPU performance always tanked while a softmodem was running. Not awful on a Pentium 2, pure misery on anything older. I always bought external, serial modems. They were the real deal. I always got better performance.
