  We got our first responsible disclosure report yesterday! On 32bit builds, it was possible to bypass the client-side PBKDF2 iteration count check by overflowing the parameter :calculator: A malicious or compromised server could therefore capture low-iteration hashes on such builds. We patched the issue and shipped an update for our Android app within a few hours. Thank you to the researcher for responsibly disclosing!   Last week, we received our second responsible disclosure security report. The researcher, "cryze", found an issue in the handling of filepaths in our external sharing mechanism. Sharing a video from a malicious imported share could lead to app-internal files being overwritten on the iOS and Android apps. This is fixed in v1.27+.   The past few weeks have been a bit quiet from our end. Not because we were on vacation though. We finally finished a huge refactoring of the Android/iOS apps that ultimately got rid of >30k lines of code.   Our storage and compute costs just went up ~35%. For us, that’s not a small adjustment, it cuts directly into the margin we use to build and improve #zeitkapsl We could pass that on. Instead, we’re taking a harder route: Inhousing our storage layer Adding a 3rd replication region Gradually replacing Hetzner and Backblaze S3 Only once everything is tested, including disaster recovery, we will switch production traffic.   With the upcoming release of the Android (v 1.15.5) and iOS (v1.15.6) apps we have made it easier to add content to albums. You can now also directly add photos from the album view.   Currently following the upload progress, especially on initial library imports on the mobile apps was a bit intransparent. With the next update, there is a nice upload progress view on the grid as well as in the settings page. #didit #degoogle
