One morning, when Kascitcana awoke from a nightmare of religious authoritarianism, they found themselves transformed into an enormous cockroach. They were covered in armour. They could fly. They could digest anything, and infect the body politic with revolutionary ideas. Like the gods, they had many arms and legs! It was wonderful!!!!! #India #democracy

I have now installed #FreeBSD on -- a Dell Latitude 5320 -- a T430 -- a Poweredge R540 and it's remarkably easy. I've got Wayland and LibreOfficeworking cheerfully on the laptops. The server took a little more fiddling because of its own weird hardware issues, but I'm setting up jails for all sorts of things. Refreshingly easy. I really missed BSD. Glad to be back. Many thanks to the FreeBSD community for being absurdly helpful, and @stefano@mastodon.bsd.cafe in particular for set...

Every now and then I have one of those days where I discover all of these marvellous people on the Fedi and they're nearby (in some sense, whether physical or by interests) and they've been here for a couple of years and I don't know them. It's delightful! It's way more delightful than when there were only a few thousand people! I do feel sad when I look at all the amazing folks who were here but left. I hope they all come back.

University of Montreal resesrch into shared stress between couples found that "lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and nonbinary couples" (SGD) supported each other better through stress than cishet couples - they "recover more efficiently from acute stress and display more engaged and coordinated support behaviors". One hypothesis explaining this was, essentially, shared oppression and the need to build strong chosen families. https://phys.org/news/2026-05-...

Disappointing news from Bangladesh. The new government is openly repressive towards the Indigenous communities of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, just like the last government and the one before that. https://www.thedailystar.net/news/bangladesh/news/govt-cautions-rani-yan-yan-against-spreading-disinformation-4161666

There have been a few wonderful conjunct holidays this year, like Ramadan and Easter, but tomorrow for us is excellent indeed: Beltane/May Day and Buddha Pūrṇimā. So here's the moon at dusk, viewed through our glorious ornamental cherry tree. 1/2 #Buddhist #fullmoon #Celtic #syndicalism #cherryblossoms

I have a new hobby. You see, our local Lidl is where a lot of the refugees in "temporary asylum accommodation" shop. And they are trying to get food that feels like actual food, in a place where there have been some really nasty xenophobic protests. The other day it was two guys from South Sudan, and I have never seen two such tall, fine people try so hard to be invisible. But they were staring at the.tomatoes and about to buy the big, pretty, tasteless ones. Very carefully I stood ne...
