Two things can be true at the same time: Smart glasses can be a great accessibility product AND have severe privacy implications. Casting either away in favor for the other means that you’re not interested in a serious debate, in my opinion.

RE: https://dragonscave.space/@KaraLG84/117279308406121475 This is why you write text alternatives yourself. Saying “AI will do it” makes blind people reliant on gatekeepers. Imagine if in the US models would think of ICE Agents as “sensitive content”. This tech is not neutral even as it pretends to be it.

I really value usability testing with disabled people, but I think sending them into an unmediated hellhole of easy to find issues like unlabeled buttons and losing focus is cruel. It is like sending someone over a street and see if they are hit to test if the traffic lights work. You can determine that on other ways first. #randomMorningA11Ythought

Stop using aria-label when your link/button already has an accessible name, doubly so when the content of the aria-label is just the same as the content of the link/button.

Me: “The ’AI’ added wrong information to the image description. That’s why you can’t fully trust it.” LinkedIn Bro: “Yeah, you have to have a person checking it.” Me: “So how is it better to create a wrong text and then have someone checking it, when checking it takes as much time as creating a good text in the first place?” *sigh

WTF is it with 40€ e-books that have Adobe DRM? I know the authors are not responsible for it, but it feels like extortion. Why punish the people who want to give you money?

Of course people will understand if you say “WCAG compliant” (instead of the correct “WCAG conformant”), the same way you would understand when a mechanic calls your car's brakes “slowy-downies”. It's just silly and unprofessional. 🧌

Also her mit den 200 Ocken! #accessibility #a11y

RE: https://mastodon.social/@Mastodon/116489457177711947 Mastodon: let’s talk about the future of this platform so it meets your needs Replies: read it in bad faith and also complain about the word “fall” instead of “autumn” And then you wonder why people don’t contribute. This is a community burning out people who want to help. (That Fall/Autumn 2026 is in this case referring to northern hemisphere autumn only is a valid complaint.)

Briefly tooting my own horn here, but I think my suggestions for toggling selectors and the updated visibility for ARIA labels/labelledby/description/describedby in Polypane* will make a massive difference in accessibility testing. Lots of other great updates, too! Affiliate Link: https://polypane.app/blog/polypane-29-new-network-panel-snippet-store-and-chromium-148/?ref=yatil *Proper Fedi-Account when, @Kilian? 😛

RE: https://chaos.social/@dasdom/116523326167587947 I think "hate" is too strong of an emotion for something like "AI" (or really anything). But I understand the sentiment.

People on LinkedIn think they are so morally great because instead of paying the Department of Warmongers' "AI" company, they now pay Palantir's "AI" company. It's all a cult.

I’m taking a proper vacation. But when I’m back, we’re going to make a plan to harden accessibility practitioners against the unethical, antithetical, and extortionist practices in the industry. Driven by the “AI” hype and the relentless ableism inside and outside the industry, accessibility is seen as more of a nuisance than ever before instead of the right that it should be. (1/5)

This is the argument, that self-driving cars can’t be bothered and rides in them need to be made convenient at all cost, that @notjustbikes outlined in his video: Nebula: https://nebula.tv/videos/notjustbikes-how-selfdriving-cars-will-destroy-cities/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=040ejWnFkj0&feature=youtu.be @dangillmor https://mastodon.social/@dangillmor/116463581068351766

Nothing better than getting your air polluted by your neighbors at 6:40 and then from 9:00 on a Saturday. It’s 2026, it’s not even especially cold, all houses are attached to gas, but no, burning wood it is. #holzofenGate
