It's kind of funny, and kind of sad, that the people who predicted LLMs would plateau as a technology just underestimated how many resources the powers-that-be were willing to throw at them.

I wonder if it'll ever be revealed that the most popular 1/5 of leftist social media accounts are actually CIA plants sent to sow division and ensure that The Left remains powerless forever

it's kind of funny that on my last trip to New York, I got every single negative stereotype about the city confirmed to me within just one day: -I saw a guy pissing on the metro -the streets were full of garbage -there were cops with rifles at one of the metro stops for some reason, just standing around -my friend, who I was visiting, lived in some hipster ass part of Brooklyn that was somehow both sketchy and insanely upscale

I wonder what JRR Tolkien would do if he found out about Palantir. Probably write a scathing letter or something.

I think a very large fraction of academia hatred stems from straight anti-intellectualism. "How dare these people try to understand the world without any direct economic benefit, and expect to have enough money for food!" There are PLENTY of legitimate criticisms of academia, but most of them apply equally well to any other large organization or have improved so much over the past 100 years that it's disingenuous to act as if they're getting worse.

Honestly I wouldn't even have anything against LLM's and AI more generally if it was like alchemy, that is, trying to create a homunculus that is inherently adept at all things arcane and alchemical, as well as personal transformation and transmutation. I think that would be neat and a very noble goal. The issue I have is that it is (often very explicitly) about more efficiently exploiting and subjugating people. The business plan of all these unprofitable AI companies is that t...
