We need to find a cure for economist brain rot, the condition that afflicts economists where they start to think economics is a study of natural laws rather than societal inventions. (See: Tragedy of the Commons)

It would be fun if instead of another dull iPhone release Apple did something truly unexpected, like the folding phone folds into a little origami like animal, or the pro models all had a shock of pink troll doll hair at the top, or honestly just *anything* surprising.

It’s so interesting reading some of the science fiction I read as a kid in the 1970s. Writers could imagine all kinds of amazing things - strange alien species, amazing feats of engineering, intelligent robots - but what they couldn’t imagine was women or non-white people being part of any of it.

I found this super interesting. In the US we think of having transit, walkable neighborhoods, public places where people interact as frills or luxuries but they are actually determinants of health, both physical and mental. https://www.brown.edu/news/2026-04-27/community-isolation-mental-health

I think at some future point Trump needs to be personally responsible for the costs of cleaning up the messes he’s creating around DC. https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/east-wing-debris-east-potomac-golf-course-toxic-metals-nps/4100585/

RE: https://fouroclockfarms.club/@david/116365721402993059 Just before Trump announced that his war crimes were postponed a bunch of people started betting on a drop in the price of crude. It’s quite possible that this whole thing was designed to create a payout for Trump loyalists.

At work we use MS 365 and gotta say over the last year it seems to have become a giant bug filled mess. I’m talking routine stuff in the office apps - like, nothing seems to work right half the time.

@scalzi shocking this might happen to a company whose product loses them more and more money the more it scales up.
