Much to my chagrin, I'm once again a car owner. But it does let me do things like pick Doctor Girlfriend up from her xray appointment.

I got a car. I also got a titanium bike frame that will be built into a bike in mid-May. I went to the lake.

Also: my cats continue to be a joy.

@siracusa apologies in advance if you’ve gotten this a million times but I have to mention this a) just in case nobody else has; and b) because I’m a pedantic nerd. The sign said, “Beware of the Leopard”.

I didn’t buy my car for the looks, but two guys helping with the parking at the annual plant sale were super impressed by it, even though (or maybe because?) they’d never seen one before.

@gruber From what you said about how much and how you use chatGPT you'd probably be equally or better served running a local model. Amusingly, chatGPT (or Gemini, what I used) would make it really easy for you to set up lmstudio and just never pay for a subscription ever again. (I'm running smaller models on my M1 Mac Mini, and it's not blazingly fast, but it does proofreading and small-scale code generation really well.)

@marcoarment@mastodon.social @caseyliss@mastodon.social @siracusa@mastodon.social I was going to write a big email about this to you guys, and I might yet, but I'll condense it here. Dijkstra himself wrote about the futility of natural language programming: https://www.cs.utexas.edu/~EWD/transcriptions/EWD06xx/EWD667.html Even knowing what we know now about LLMs, I believe this to be true. The problem is that human languages are leaky and imprecise, so you'll always need something more...

@marcoarment@mastodon.social I’ve thrown in with the Mola Cult, yeah.
