📸 #Vernissage 1.8.0 is now available on the App Store! This update brings two new features: - New metadata-based timelines - explore photos taken with a specific camera, lens, or film. - On iOS 27, Vernissage can generate photo descriptions and tags using an on-device model. Hope you enjoy the update! ❤️

A lot of new people have joined #Vernissage recently - which is wonderful to see! ❤️ But I haven’t noticed many new patrons. If you enjoy the platform, please consider supporting it on Patreon. Nothing online is truly free: Big Tech pays the bills with ads, addictive algorithms and your privacy. #Vernissage has none of that - but hosting still costs money. I’ve also added new Patreon tiers for anyone who’d like to support the project even more. Thank you so much! 😊 https://patreon.com/Verniss...

A new version of #Vernissage for iOS is now available on the App Store! 🎉 The main addition is support for push notifications, which can be enabled manually from the Notifications screen. With this release, all major Vernissage features are now available in the native iOS app. I’m incredibly happy to reach this milestone! 😊 If you use the app and enjoy it, please don’t forget to leave a rating and review on the App Store. ❤️ https://apps.apple.com/pl/app/vernissage-photos/id6759335335

I’ve noticed that many users with accounts on vernissage.photos report AI-generated images to me that were posted from other instances (such as Mastodon, Pixelfed, etc.). However, those instances may have different rules and may allow such content. I can only take action when an account on vernissage.photos itself is violating our rules. Content originating from other instances is governed by the policies of those instances, not ours. 😉

A quick reminder that most of the features implemented in 2026 have been tracked on the project’s roadmap: https://github.com/orgs/VernissageApp/projects/5 A lot has already been completed! 🎉 I’d love to finish the year by adding: - A dedicated page for text-based mentions and direct messages - Collections with Fediverse synchronization - C2PA support (hopefully with NLnet funding, so I can implement it the way I envision) Fingers crossed! 🤞

Are you running a community-accessible #Vernissage instance? If you’d like your instance to be included on the public server list at https://joinvernissage.org/servers.html and displayed in the mobile app, please submit a pull request to the curated instances repository: https://github.com/VernissageApp/Curated This helps keep the list transparent, up to date, and easy for the community to maintain.

Here’s the current architecture of Vernissage. What started as a small project has grown into a surprisingly capable platform. The architecture has become fairly complex, but it finally feels like most of the major building blocks are in place, so I don’t expect significant additions for a while. It’s exciting to look at this diagram and realize how much has been built. Every part of it has been developed in the open and published as open source from day one. 😊

Today we released #Vernissage 1.37.0 🎉 You can now follow hashtags: photos marked with followed tags will appear in your private timeline. Status details also show common hashtags and clearly highlight tags you follow. The iOS app with hashtag-following support has been submitted to Apple for review and should be available soon. This release also includes notification improvements, minor fixes, documentation updates, and other refinements. Thank you for your support! 😊

New #Vernissage 1.34.0 is out! 🚀 This release focuses on safety, federation, and usability. We’ve improved blocking (including comments), added report federation via ActivityPub Flag, and introduced a mechanism to suspend communication with unreliable servers. There are also expanded AI settings (including support for local models) and autocomplete for hashtags and users. Plus many smaller fixes and improvements across the app. Thank you for your support - it truly means everything.

I recently saw a discussion here about hashtags, which inspired me to make a few improvements to #Vernissage. I refined the helper text and added autocomplete suggestions for both hashtags and users as you type. Importantly, hashtags that follow readability and accessibility best practices are now prioritized - making them more likely to be selected by users.

Vernissage is available to download from App Store: https://apps.apple.com/pl/app/vernissage-for-pixelfed/id1663543216 What is Vernissage? Vernissage is a simple and intuitive Pixelfed client that is focused on showcasing and sharing photos. With Vernissage, you can browse through a timeline that is dedicated to photos only. This means that you won't find any other types of media in the app, so you can focus solely on discovering and enjoying beautiful photography.

The March financial report for vernissage.photos is now available. Thank you to all existing Patrons - your support keeps #Vernissage alive. There is no corporation, no sponsor, no ads, and no algorithms behind it - only community support. If you use Vernissage, please consider becoming a Patron. That is the only way this independent platform can keep running. Also: a little surprise is coming on Easter Monday. 🌿 #Vernissage #Photography #Fediverse #FOSS https://vernissage.photos/news/7624...

Please note an important detail about Vernissage for iOS: it is a dedicated client that connects ONLY to #Vernissage instances (while communication between servers is handled via ActivityPub). It does not support Mastodon, Pixelfed, or other services. Vernissage uses a different, in some areas more extensive, API. Unfortunately, many Fediverse apps imitate Mastodon by exposing the same API, which can lead users to believe that this is how the Fediverse works by default. 😉

I’ve recently received a few requests to change the layout on the status page with a photo. I had a little time today to take a look at it, and I think you’ll like the final result (see the screenshots). The photo now takes up much more space on the screen - as it should. And the best part: you can check it out yourselves, because it’s already live on vernissage.photos.

After weeks of development and testing, Vernissage for iOS is now available to everyone. It’s free, with no in-app purchases, no tracking, and no privacy-invasive mechanisms. Thank you to everyone who shared valuable feedback during testing. Notification improvements and push notifications are still on the roadmap. The source code is open on GitHub: github.com/VernissageApp/VernissageMobile. Please rate the app on the App Store and leave a review: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/vernissage-photo...

Patrons - check your inboxes. You’ve got a little surprise! 🎁 As a thank-you for supporting Vernissage, you’re the first to get access to the native iOS app (via TestFlight). It already includes almost all key features - the only thing coming later is push notifications (needs more backend work). I’m aiming to make this app as user-friendly as possible, with a strong focus on great UX. After testing and stabilizing, I’ll release it on the App Store for everyone (still deciding the model).

Huge thanks to all my Patrons for the feedback and testing Vernissage iOS app. I really hope the main issues have now been resolved. As usual, most of the challenges were around extracting and transforming files from the Photos/Files apps. Patrons, the new version is now available for you! I’ve slightly improved the metadata editing screen, so you can now clearly see which photo you’re describing and what its dimensions are. Enjoy using it! And as always, I’m looking forward to your feedback 😊
