I’m creating a workshop to teach my students some basics about CSS. Absolute beginners. The goal is to give them a few tools/insights/tricks with big impact: when they use those tricks their websites will not be ugly, and maybe even nice. For instance, simple things like `max-width: 30em;` for text, or `color-scheme: light dark;` or powerful selector stuf like `:nth-of-type(2n)`. Any ideas?

I made a version of the Literary Clock that only uses quotes that tell the time in vague terms. ☞ https://vasilis.nl/clocks/literary-about-clock/ (Most quotes are in Dutch, many in English, a few in Greek, and one in German. The language attribute should change, so I assume it works with a screenreader as well)

I added a few clocks to my clocks page. I will try to keep it updated. ☞ https://vasilis.nl/clocks/ It now shows the clocks in a truly unordered list.

Tickets for The Web You Want (day 2) are going steady. You can grab your free ticket as well, before they’re all gone. I really like the program, to me it looks as promising as day one. I’ll try to finalise the schedule this week. ☞ https://gath.io/2rLRGJ4g91uetPsV_yhkS

I found a font (Shop Sans) on Future Fonts which is exactly the font I needed for this clock. Also, I didn’t know I needed this clock until I found this font. ☞ https://vasilis.nl/clocks/shop/01/

Looking at my server logs — all these bots crashing the party — makes me really depressed about the state of the web. And it makes me look forward even more to the Web We Want event we’re organising. ☞ https://the-web-we-want.com/

96 days ago I told you about the advent/recovery calendar I was making for my father. According to his doctor he needed 100 days to recover from an accident. He loves this calendar, he clicks on it every day. It turns out he needs more days. His doctor said that these kinds of injuries can take half a year. So I’m making a new calendar with a 10x8 grid. And I could use your help, again. If you have any fascinating, unexpected, artistic, historical, fantastic links, please send them to me.

I’m going to give a workshop about variable/colour fonts to my web design students. So it’s about fonts and CSS. Any fonts I should use as an example? Any specific things I should mention? Nerdy details? Any fantastic examples? Warnings and considerations maybe?

Had a wonderful time at The Web You Want. I loved the speakers, their topics: the seriousness, the fun, the unexpected subjects, and the weirdness. Thanks to my students for their fantastic work, and thanks to @marleenstikker, @hdv, Sanne Peters, Justus Sturkenboom, and @html5test for their excellent talks, and thanks to all visitors for visiting! The event in June is not sold out yet. ☞ https://gath.io/2rLRGJ4g91uetPsV_yhkS

There is so much to say about The Web You Want, the event we hosted last Friday, but I decided to write just about the bad web, the better web, the fun web and about the thoughtful web. ☞ https://vasilis.nl/nerd/2026/i-like-the-web-they-want/ If you wrote about the event on your own site, please let me know and I’ll link to it.
