Here's a solid demo of the free OS, Haiku, which is based off of BeOS. They've brought it up to date so it runs Firefox, GNU Imp, and LibreOffice. Not shown but kind of awesome are filesystem queries integrated into the wm, Tracker, which is one of my favorite OS/wm features from any platform. If you've not tried Haiku then I recommend downloading an ISO and running it in a VM. https://youtu.be/1R4WCaOpmlo

Hey, web folks. I humbly suggest that you start testing your sites against Servo and submit any rendering bugs to the project. Stories like this that tout a major site working in Servo are a great way to introduce more people to the project. https://www.phoronix.com/news/Servo-0.5-Released

I don't use streaming music but if I did Tidal would have my business because of their move to eliminate slop fakery and to demonitize the other slop.

I wonder how many teams are reevaluating the risk of hosting services across many small locations run by diverse companies. Hosting in one big building owned by a hypercorp headquartered in an aggressive nation seems increasingly risky.

A remarkably similar story to how I retired early: https://www.focalcurve.com/journal/the-end/ I've heard from a number of older tech folks who find the current web, controlled by Google and bloated with ridiculous tools, distasteful enough to take early retirement by living lower on the hog instead of following their original plans of saving enough to retire without worry. Whether this means anything interesting or whether it will have predictable results, I don't know.
