i try not to end up in positions where i have to explain mastodon to people. but occasionally i do. and i do usually say, "well, it's.. it's like email." unfortunately that they cannot possibly understand why it is making me do a pained laugh to say that sentence out loud

the other day i was walking through a cemetery with my mom and a doe was out and about with 4 fawns one of the fawns was a little further away and they were doing (i assume) a call and response to keep track of each other so we'd hear the main group go "MEEP!" and the fawn on its own go "meep!" back and forth for a bit while they all just kinda grazed nonchalantly extremely cute

when someone finds out im an artist (ie from my nametag at work having my title "art educator" on it, etc), they always are like "oh cool! what medium?" and i always answer, like, "oh it used to be digital art but im more of a jack of all trades anymore," which is approximately the truth. but i don't know what the Actual answer would be. maybe "i'm still figuring that out" is my Actual answer
