Videoconference community servers The open Jitsi Meet instances I was using for community videocalls all require a login, now. Are there any videoconferencing community servers that are still open, or where I could ask to have an account? The last thing I want to do is self-host a video conferencing software, unless it’s something simple and light. Also: has anyone been trying other software solutions beyond BigBlueButton and Jitsi Meet? Happy to test reliable alternatives you recommend. #he...

🚄 Berlin to Sanremo This thread documents my journey home from #DWebCamp, exclusively via railway, expected to last 25 hours. More specifically: yesterday I travelled back to Berlin from Alte Hölle, Wiesenburg (Mark) station; today from Warschauer Straße to Berlin Hauptbanhof, then to München Hauptbanhof, then overnight to Firenze Campo di Marte, then tomorrow to Genova Piazza Principe, and finally to Taggia Arma. Most importantly, here is the playlist of this journey. #CrossBorderRail #train...

My DWeb Camp highlight was ending up in a basement rave with @cwebber@social.coop (we managed to drag @paulbutgold@mastodon.bida.im too, even he was sleepy) and Kaia using a custom build of Mixxx on my laptop to play. Plus, Christine is now in possession of a video of me questionably sober improvising a song about the Fediverse and other things by randomly looping C and G with @adz@post.lurk.org’s guitar.

It looks like all outbound trains from Rotterdam Centraal just got cancelled. And so the Odyssey begins. Starting to pray the deities of @ns_online@trains-official.eu (and @db@trains-official.eu, even if surprisingly it’s not their fault this time) Am I going to get to Berlin by the end of the day? Update/Spoiler: yes, I made it! I arrived 4 hours after the original planned time, and it was not even that stressful in the end, quite fun. #train #journeyToDWebCamp #DWebCamp #crossBorderRail #N...

Stepping down as Framework Linux Community AmbassadorsWe are Tommi and Fraxinas, Framework Linux Community Ambassadors since September 2024. We apprehensively followed the developments and the debate concerning Framework’s endorsement and support of Omarchy. We have no direct experience with this Linux distribution, its community, nor with the political environment around it. We did not speak up before now because learning about all of it and keeping up with all the commentary would have been a...

After six years only using #Contabo, I am looking for other #VPS #hosting options. I do not feel they are particularly reliable any more (maybe they have never been), and I would prefer to go for a provider with a good track record. I have looked at websites comparing other hosting options, but of course everything is super chaotic and flashy and aaaargh I trust folks here for advice on affordable, reliable, trustworthy European providers. I would like to add cooperative and sustainable too, b...

RE: https://burningboard.net/@alison/116342704652442405 For context: this (Mailchimp link) is the newsletter @alison is referring to. As I replied privately via email, we are now using Mailchimp and we really want to switch to a Free Software solution without tracking, but: email is probably the most delicate communication technology of all, it is terribly easy for an email to end up in spam, and we really want to avoid thatour team is composed of very diverse people who work for DWeb not for...
