My sentiments exactly on this July 4th holiday "To call this Saturday the nation’s 250th birthday is to indulge a comfortable fiction. 1776 was a declaration, not a birth certificate – and the founders wrote its claims of human equality while this nation enslaved human beings. A truer account of American freedom runs through 1619 and Juneteenth, when Americans forced the country, at last, to begin making its promises answerable to reality. So I’m not in the mood to celebrate “America 250...

My friend got me completely hooked on this Renaissance Faire thing and now I've gone down a rabbit hole of cooking up costume ideas every time I'm at the thrift store!. We're going back to the Virginia one in two weeks, and this time I'm going as Frodo from Lord of the Rings! 😄

My mom just got a letter from Social Security saying they made a mistake and now she needs to pay back her SS benefits dating back to 2022. Meanwhile billionaires like Musk, Bezos, and Zuckerturd pay nothing in taxes without consequences, and worse, with the Orange Blob's full blessing. #FuckTrump

I love how international my feed is here in the #Fediverse. It's nice to get perspectives from other places and learn about things beyond my own borders, that you would never encounter on centralized social media.

Today is definitely a go-to-bed-early day because I absolutely need to shut my mind off. I can take a lot of abuse from strangers, online or in person. But wounds from a friend are a special kind of painful....

Karaoke tonight with my best friends! Exactly the boost I needed! 🎤

Update: karaoke night was mostly fun, enjoyed catching up with old friends (and meeting some new) but alas the place we went to turned out to be a MAGA toxic male hangout spot. Eww. Lots of big burly guys making creepy passes at any woman who walked in there. So…back to the gay bar next time!

Ok, who the hell would voluntarily have their dinner conversations recorded??? And sent to Campbell’s Soup??? This reads like an Onion article, honestly. https://www.pcmag.com/news/pass-the-prego-and-the-device-recording-your-conversations-at-the-dinner

I've had the good fortune this far in my life to not personally witness violence but that ended this afternoon coming home from the Maymont Herbs Galore event here in Richmond. I’m stopped at an intersection near Chesterfield Town Center, about to turn left onto Midlothian Turnpike. I suddenly hear screaming coming from the parking lot next to the road I’m on, and I look over and a dude is screaming at his wife or girlfriend, trying to pull her out of his car by her hair and hitting her. Unf...

The line-storm clouds fly tattered and swift. The road is forlorn all day, Where a myriad snowy quartz stones lift, And the hoof-prints vanish away. The roadside flowers, too wet for the bee, Expend their bloom in vain. Come over the hills and far with me, And be my love in the rain. The birds have less to say for themselves In the wood-world's torn despair Than now these numberless years the elves, Although they are no less there: All song of the woods is crushed like som...

A narrow path between the trees Beckons with its mystery Tangled mess of shrubs obscure The view of where the trail leads Branches weeping touch the water As birds above me sing and fly The river's flow takes its time Critters sun themselves on rocks nearby Puffy clouds drift aimless aloft From rivers edge jut piles of logs Geese swim by with their young in tow River rats laugh as they paddle and row #poetry #poems #writing

Going to my first #RenaissanceFaire next weekend in northern Virginia with friends from work, need to figure out my costume this weekend! Hoping I can find some stuff that’s pirate-y enough that’s not on Amazon.

My aunt in coastal Georgia just texted me a video clip of a painted bunting at her bird feeder and I could not be more jealous! I saw an indigo bunting once, a few summers ago at my nursery's production farm. It really is an amazing world we live in. We should take better care of it. #Birds #Wildlife

Had an absolute blast today at the #Virginia Renaissance Faire in Spotsylvania County, my first time at such an event! I can see why people get really into it! So much creativity and talent between the costumes and the wares people were selling. Definitely going to be an annual event for me.
