One of my favorite #emacs/tramp things is that in find-file I can say: /ssh:some-server.com|docker:some-container:/conf/some-conf.yaml to view/edit a file inside a docker container on a remote host and that, after opening said file, M-x shell gives me a shell inside said container and dired is available as well to browse directory structures.

i've been hacking on the tinyrwm.c example river provides for probably one or two months now and had that stupid idea to build a "tabbed mode" (what sway has at $mod+w) only window manager. It works surprisingly well, but will probably go back to the drawer of unfinished projects soon as I don't plan to maintain a river wm (or spend as much time with this experiment as I *actually* did)

guess i'll dailydrive my heavily modified tinyrwm.c river hackery as my window manager now ... and I have to give kudos to the river project as it made hacking on wayland window managers approachable and fun for the past few months

I love the stance #guix is hopefully taking on genAI with GCD 008: “Standing up for human crafting”: https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/guix-devel/2026-05/msg00164.html kudos to @civodul for writing this proposal!

TIL that Siemens has built a tiling X window manager called RTL in 1988 and the way tiling works in this is actually pretty cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOxIUeroIVQ

#fosdem was pretty cool, especially this years declarative and minimal computing dev room (even if I missed the first few talks there!). already looking forward to the #guix days tomorrow

spend parts of my weekend having fun hacking on my diff-drv utility to diff guixes ATerm files. Implemented BFS traversal (to show which exact paths differ) as well as a IoU index (to tell how similiar two .drv graphs are) so it's easier to figure out what changed between two builds regarding the inputs. I'll push it to https://codeberg.org/theesm/diff-drv tomorrow (after cleaning up the branch a bit and after having prettified the output so it's consistent to the rest of...

did some evening hacking on my derivation diff utility and experimented with the output format a bit more. It now shows whether an input has been added, removed or updated and if updated whether that's because of a version bump (v) or a hash change without a version bump (h). Haven't pushed the current version to codeberg yet, as I'm still trying out new ideas, learning about more and more #guix internals that simplify what I'm trying to do along the way, and the...

I summarized my notes on what's already working/available in guix proper, what's missing and can/cannot be upstreamed, and what the general status of stuff required for running #guix system on the rk3588 mnt pocket reform is here: https://me.literatelisp.eu/guix-on-mnt-pocket-reform-whats-still-missing.html
