@pezmico@mastodon.nz In reality they never owned any of that stuff, it belonged to the people, It was just given to them by governments that they owned.

@blogdiva@mastodon.social And it is what might kill Windows and Microsoft, if people cannot upgrade their hardware to match Windows "upgrades" they will seek OSs that run on less computing power. Ironic that t takes multiple orders of magnitude more computing power to run a video game about putting a man on the moon than it did to put a man on the moon.

@maj I guessed roughly 50% but that includes a lot of posts on how we can improve society that by implication are negative because they posit that improvements are necessary.

One of the reasons #Boomers seemed to fair well is because our parents #taxed the #rich. For some reason we stopped during the 1970s. Scroll down to Marginal Tax Rates section of link below for more details. https://the5thc.blogspot.com/2025/11/on-reforming-capitalism.html

@autumn That looks like what I wore working in a smelter, at least part of the time, alternating between the mask being too uncomfortable and the air being too crappy. Fortunately only for about 6 months.

Appears the owner doesn't seem interested in making a profit but just in providing a home for the tenants so perhaps turning it into a co-op with the residents buying in with enough funds to do the upgrades needed and a monthly co-op fee high enough to ensure this doesn't happen again might be an option. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/vernon-mobile-home-park-power-loss-9.7152632

Legacy systems are systems designed when software was designed to do what it was built for forever and not designed to require updates every six months.

Never underestimate the power of white privilege. Remember the people of a whole continent were misnamed for hundreds of years because one white man couldn't navigate. #WhitePrivilege

One step closer to moving my account to Ottawa Place, where i would have been if I knew about it when I joined Mastodon. Just waiting for the right time to do it uninterrupted without distraction. And of course there is always the possibility I will procrastinate or change my mind, but I am about 85% certain.

Oh yes I wanted to ask what the character limit was on #OttawaPlace i did not notice that when I was going through the rules.

Wondering whoever dreamed up calling other peoples computer servers connected to the internet "the cloud". When I think of clouds I think of light fluffy things that when they get full and heavy start to leak all over the place. Hardly the metaphor I would want to use for computer storage. #TheCloud

If the new NDP leader proves too "socialist" for some they can join the Liberals and drag them back to Liberalism from their current pretending to be the old PCs incarnation.

Only applies to workers under federal jurisdiction but still sets an example. "Most employees in Canada are covered by their provincial or territorial rates.
