I see a respected high profile poster complaining bitterly about mansplainers on Mastodon, seemingly without awareness that those hated replies aren't explaining at *them*. These are people thinking through what has been said, making associations to what they already know, and articulating that minor additional insight in a paragraph for the benefit of themselves and other readers like them. Masto is a conversational medium and this is what conversation is.

I'm only belatedly realizing that the apparent success of LLM generative text solutions in the market is showing the reason why success comes to people who are full of bluster and confidence without caring about important details or correctness.

@aanee@mastodon.online @infobeautiful@vis.social oh yes, you are absolutely right! Extremely well funded and insidious thumbs on the scales from the fossil fuel lobby.

@aanee@mastodon.online @infobeautiful@vis.social while I'm 100% on board with you directionally, I suppose the counter argument would be that exponential growth has to tap out eventually, is just a question of when it turns into an S-curve.

@thomastc I haven't been keeping track of your development, but FWIW I think you should know that I think those little white highlights on the waves look fantastic too :-)

@nessita I'll tell you what makes me happy - when I'm browsing around the Django docs or source code, and I see all the excellent changes that you, my splendid, very much appreciated old colleague, has been busy making. Thanks for being such a force for good in the world. Big hugs!

@troberts@theblower.au Number one correlated trait to seeing high ROI: Do not objectively measure ROI.
