Is Asesprite really all there is for editing pixel art? I can't read any of this. This is a nightmare for accessibility. This typeface and these icons are an insult to anyone without good vision (me, I'm the one without good vision, I just can't use this). 200% is still hard to read, 300% doesn't fit on the screen. A decent fucking font would be readable at this size.

I don't remember GIMP being this impossibly hard to use. Either I got dumber or the UI did. I can't make anything work. Palettes are completely incomprehensible to me. I thought maybe I'd find it more comfortable than Asesprite since I used to use it so much, but it doesn't feel familiar at all. Maybe I can make sense of Krita?

Gnome Boxes is so stubbornly wrong-headed. There's a patch to fix this scaling issue in their issue tracker, it's been there for like a year, and they're still shipping this mess and I have to rebuild every time a new version arrives. Also, VMs default to shutting down when you go back to the main page, no way to make that not the default. Who TF wants their VM to pause if you open another VM?

@skinnylatte@hachyderm.io yep, I'm from working class roots. I got lucky in the stock market during the first tech boom which funded my first throw. Then I got into Y Combinator, which helped with a second (though it was back when Y Combinator invested a laughably small amount of money). After nearly a decade working a regular tech job, maybe I can take another throw...but, now I'm old enough to need good health insurance and a retirement account, so the risk is higher.

@exchgr@mastodon.world this might be true (despite my astonishment about how well the best models actually work), but in my experience a lot of human developers are also running a Ponzi scheme of tech debt, hopping from job to job leaving a mess in their wake. I suspect AI will accelerate that. Good developers will write good code faster. Bad developers will write bad code faster.

@h@social.besties.house I once made the mistake of asking on StackOverflow how best to make a preconfigured Linux OS image for installing on bare metal, and literally every response turned it into "how do I make a Docker container?"

Oh, y'all don't forget, it's Bandcamp Friday. All proceeds from sales today go to the artist, Bandcamp doesn't take a cut. I'mma buy some weird thrash that sounds like it was recorded in a dumpster. #bandcampFriday https://reactorblast.bandcamp.com/album/rise-of-the-reactor

Employers and media in a tizzy over the Gen Z stare, again. Not me, though. I love them weird little autistic alien kids who behave unlike all previous generations. It's not like previous generations faux warmth and effusive engagement has led to utopia. Give'em the stare. Let them sit in an uncomfortable moment.

Here's a weird thing that happens in my neighborhood (many weird things happen in my neighborhood, this is one of the more benign): Every now and then someone leaves a box of fresh produce on the sidewalk. I don't mean from a garden. It's in the same types of box grocery stores receive it in, sometimes packaged individual. I came across a box of lettuce most recently. A couple dozen heads of lettuce, bagged and still cool, as though fresh off a reefer truck.

I have made the most precarious and hacky home for my second GPU, because after three case attempts, none of them have enough room for a GPU in the second slot of my motherboard, which is a kind of weird E-ATX board. I just stuck some boards in the bottom to hold it up at roughly the right location, and got a riser cable to plug it in. Why, yes, those are 3D printed blower shrouds because the V620 is a server GPU and doesn't have cooling. It's a catastrophe, but I have 64GB VRAM....

@mitsuhiko there are a bunch of projects I had on my todo list, some for years, that I could have done at any time, but they would have taken more effort/time than I had in me. Over the holidays, I knocked out a half dozen of them, including a couple of quite large ones. I was extremely skeptical, but I've now done several projects with it, and I can't pretend the results aren't astonishing. I don't think a non-technical person could have done any of them, but it sure made me fa...
