Silly electronics question for people… I'm building a circuit that needs to drive a LED dot matrix panel, which means I need a beefy 5V DC-DC power supply to step down from 12V. I found a suitable candidate: the Meanwell NID100-5. 5V 11A output. I'll be using it next to radio equipment, so class-B filtering is _very_ desirable. The NID100 can be used without filtering for class-A (industrial) applications, but for class-B you need filters. Below is the recommended circuit. I'm...

Learned the hard way with #NetBSD : if you want the #gd and/or #ImageMagick libraries in PHP (commonly required if you're installing Wordpress or in my case, @movim@piaille.fr), one must install the X11 sets when installing NetBSD. You can install them later using `sysinst`, however, have a back-up of your `/etc` handy, because it's real easy to accidentally blat your `/etc` config files with system defaults that will boot to single user mode with no `sshd` running.

Trying to find things online in 2026… bloody tedium. I do a lot of radio comms events where I'm out on a checkpoint. In all weather… bright sunshine… pouring rain… freezing cold. Everything. Running a checkpoint involves paperwork, which you must keep dry, but still use out in the elements. I also have a tablet computer, which *really* does not like even the slightest spray on the screen. I thought about this, and bought one of these: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/306249867707 — that sp...

@404mediaco@mastodon.social Interesting, @benjedwards@mastodon.social is listed as one of the authors there. Wonder how the slop crept into that one?

@alice @AltTextHealthCheck I wonder how well that health check actually measures the quality of those alt texts. There's a world of a difference between, say… - A photo of a grey cat laying on his side in a carpeted crows nest looking out the window - May be an image of a cat - Cat - image/jpeg (And sadly, the last one I've seen more than once!)

@fluidlogic My father used to bring home a Toshiba T3100 that had an 80287 FPU from his workplace, but I was very young then. I didn't really get to use that machine proper until maybe 1990 or '91. By which time, 386 and 486 PCs were all the rage: technically 32-bit machines running a 16-bit OS (MS-DOS/Windows 3.1).
