A brief reintroduction. My name is Sarah. I am a software engineer, a small business owner, a VTuber fan, a tinkerer, a patron of the arts, and a woman. I have been known as another name and gender before, but as of today, that is no more. 💖 (I will be transferring accounts soon, don't be surprised if you get a follow from a new Masto account from me soon, or see this post on a new account tomorrow) #introduction

    > Starting in iOS 27, apps built with the latest SDK must use the scene-based life cycle or they fail to launch. If you've been waiting to switch from app delegate to scene delegate, you must update by September. https://developer.apple.com/documentation/updates/uikit

The new theme support in Xcode 27 is lovely. Great work all around by that team. #wwdc

I've been pretty negative about Apple over the last decade but this WWDC and the 27 releases look... pretty solid? They addressed a bunch of issues about their rushed rollout of Liquid Glass and Intelligence, built out a pretty cohesive set of tools for on-device consumer AI for doing things and not just slapping slop buttons everywhere, and spent most of the rest of the release working on fundamentals. Still a company full of problems that will take time to Cook out, but this was a good...

If you've been enjoying the World Cup, Seattle vs Portland is the best American soccer rivalry, it's going to be a great time and it's about to start. Included with an Apple TV subscription, which you might already have. https://tv.apple.com/us/sporting-event/seattle-sounders-fc-vs-portland-timbers/umc.cse.5cw7l5bwlgwukvj03rexh9iv0?ctx_brand=tvs.sbd.7000

It's very funny that for Vision Pro, an insanely expensive and uncomfortable device notoriously light on content and use cases, Apple was banking on a minor hardware refresh to save it, and was surprised it didn't. Just comical levels of being out of touch on your product. https://www.macrumors.com/2026/04/29/apple-vision-pro-m5-flop/

Very nearly caught up on FFXIV MSQ, will be done just in time for Fan Fest announcements. If they'd cut Tuliyollal and just started from Alexandria thru 7.3, I think it would've been a perfect expansion story (maybe with a little bit of Krile's story in 7.4). Might be up there with Shadowbringers.
