On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder is a valuable thing to have by your side in these times of increasing fascism. Each chapter begins with a short bit of advice as it's title, followed by a sentence or two on it's potential importance. The rest of the chapter provides concrete historical examples. Each chapter is short, and the book is only 126 pages. Possibly the most valuable thing that you could ever read. I'm going to be posting the first page of each chapter, because of how importa...

The thing I love about 'Tugboat' Wilkinson is that he defies convention. You look at him and see that he does not have a physique which says 'he's an athlete'. Yet he competes and has success. He's a major league pitcher. He's held the Dodgers to one hit through two innings so far today. That's not to say that the Giants will win, and who knows what his stats will end up looking like. L.A., it has to be said, is formidable. But he goes out there and surprises pe...

One of the defining issues of our times: older Americans, living longer cuz of advances in healthcare, are holding onto their jobs as well as their wealth and influence, and as a result are delaying the inheritance of those things by the generations which follow them. What to do about it? How to share resources, upward mobility and generational agency while building a system of care which all generations can benefit from as they age? https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/30/opinion/american-geronto...

I went BOWLING today! The first time in fifteen years. Haha, I had to figure out how to do it all over again. I've been in leagues twice in my life, the last time around 2010. I think my average back then was around 175. Today, I got a 79 and a 115. Hahahaha, but I had a smile on my face. A simple pastime. Next time, I'll be better. Big place. Sixty lanes! 🎳 #bowling

Hugs in the dugout for Robbie Ray, who looks like a guy who's just been traded. He pitched very well tonight. Six innings, 86 pitches, 4 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 6 strikeouts. Thanks for the memories. #baseball

I'm reading a really interesting article about recording a sound source using the Mid-Side (M/S) technique instead of normal stereo. Part of it makes use of a bidirectional/figure-8 microphone, which I'd never heard of before. I process audio using Mid-Side all the time, but I've never recorded it this way. Didn't know you could! If you're not familiar with Korneff, they're a company run by audio professionals which makes software plugins for music-making. Crucially, t...

For those interested, beginning today the weather reports David Lynch did on YouTube in 2020 and 2021 are perfectly in sync with the 2026 and 2027 calendars. Here's the first one, for May 11, 2020. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krIj6eLF4mU&list=PLTPQcjlcvvXExy6Ti4TccyRvwntL00b2w&index=1 #davidLynch #twinPeaks

I finished my latest rewatch of Twin Peaks: The Return. Such a mind-bending season. I've also been immersing myself in the interpretations of the season that are present in the r/TwinPeaks subreddit, which have broadened my view considerably. I appreciate this show more each time I see it. #twinpeaks

This week, I got word that the Leipzig-based record label Adventurous Music has agreed to release the collaborative album I did with my Madrid-based friend Autodetuned. 'Tunneling Underground' will drop this November. We are very psyched! https://www.adventurousmusic.com/ #music #musician #soundArt

Any #gardening folks know what kind of flowering #plant this is (shown amongst two types of Achillea)? I was given a sprig last year by a neighbor I seldom see, and I can't remember it's name.

@scalzi @Chancerubbage wow, this blows. I had a Maschine when I first got back into music making in 2015. I use both Ozone and plugin alliance, esp the latter. Will keep an eye on all this.
