A new and detailed map of dark matter is preliminarily available from a consortium of astronomers, the UNIONS survey. While it does not point to the constituents of dark matter, it tells us more about how it is locally distributed about the Milky Way. I was very sad to learn today of the passing of T. Denny Sanford, who “… provided significant gifts to the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) and Crazy Horse Memorial in the Black Hills of South Dakota.” Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) bears his name. "Trump Proposes Defunding National Academies" - AIP.ORG https://www.aip.org/fyi/trump-proposes-defunding-national-academies The National Academies are one of the last national science advisory bodies left in the US. This is consistent with the current administration's effort to wipe away independent and reliable information.

I had a lot of fun yesterday talking about the Artemis II mission, some of its #science efforts, and the value of exploration and science with "Morning North" host Markus Schwabe. I am very grateful to my colleagues at @snolabscience.bsky.social for the chance to meet with Markus and discuss this moment in the space program as the Artemis II crew prepare to return to mother Earth. Pleased to be part of the #SNOLAB team at the Xenon Workshop in #Montreal. Many great discussions with a recognition that cooperation across projects is important to advancing this technology. I am spending time this morning inside one of #Sudbury's lovely bakery-cafes. Saw the production of “Jagged Little Pill” by the #Sudbury Performance Group today. Whew … that was a HEAVY musical. But it was an excellent production, and I feel good that I have rediscovered community theatre in my new home. Near Sudbury? I highly recommend you go check out this show! I love watching local talent give it their all. https://www.showpass.com/alanis-morissettes-jagged-little-pill-the-musical/

Going through our cassette collection and digitizing it has made me revisit Roger Waters’s albums “Radio K.A.O.S.” and “Amused To Death”. These are very pertinent art pieces that speak to the modern era, with messages about connection, war, nihilism, and compassion that weirdly resonate with me right now.

Well, we are hunkered down for quite an end-of-season winter storm. #Sudbury is forecast to get something like 40cm (1.3ft) of snow.

EDIT: Or, maybe Steve can just read the release notes! ;-) https://github.com/Chocobozzz/PeerTube/releases/tag/v8.1.0 ORIGINAL: Recent versions of PeerTube seem to have continued problems breaking video thumbnails (e.g. in the “Discovery” view). This seems to be a known and documented issue: https://github.com/Chocobozzz/PeerTube/issues/7501 I am certainly looking forward to v8.1.3. 😉 No complaints otherwise from me, though…

This was quite a winter storm. Most people have spent today digging out. Highways are closed, plows are not clearing the neighbourhoods, etc. When a plow does come through, they erect an ice and snow barricade at the end of your driveway. Here are some photos from our afternoon. Shout out to Snow Squad for clearing our driveway early this morning. Made a lot less work later in the day! w/ @jodi #snow #storm #winter #Sudbury
