Stone’s film isn’t that good, Citizenfour is much better. You can watch it here: archive.org/details/citizenfour-2014

RSA has been around a long time and is relatively easy to understand and implement. But for new deployments we’re supposed to use ECC instead. The comment earlier about P vs NP is unfortunately confused. Factoring is not known to be NP-hard and it probably isn’t.

OpenAI might have stolen another major math proof Not Navier-Stokes, that was a couple days ago, old news. It’s one of the less famous problems they posted around the same time. The cited Mathstodon post is here: mathstodon.xyz/@andreasthom/117240535270608201

https://lobste.rs/ maybe? Non-programming forums are still around too, like progarchives.com. AI scrapers may be more of a threat than Reddit. I heard that https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/ put most of its fiction section behind a login wall, maybe to avoid scraping and other overactive bots.

The FBI raided the Portsmouth, Virginia, office of Virginia Senate President Pro Tempore L. Louise Lucas, a Democratic leader in the state behind its redistricting victory, on Wednesday, ostensibly over corruption allegations. Lucas, an 82-year-old great-grandmother, has been a frequent critic of Republicans and President Trump, and is an ally to Virginia’s Democratic Governor Abigail Spanberger. Fox News covered the FBI raid live.

Car engine fire in parking lot near house where I was living. Guy asked me to call it in so I did. He managed to put out the fire himself before the cops got there.

Er I didn't know what to expect and trans-related is the last thing I would have thought of. I had been thinking of using that name for an instance or community with per-thread anonymity, mostly to make it harder to build user profiles by scraping.

PIC64 is a product line now? And it's Risc-V underneath? Interesting. PIC32 is/was MIPS-32 so I guess it fits.

What are you supposed to wear instead, assuming the weather is ok for long pants? I prefer long pants unless it's too hot, since the pants keep bugs off your legs, etc. I've always worn jeans.

As a few people have said, using mobile data to sync to a remote server is susceptible to local jamming of your mobile signal. So you might want to sync by wifi to some nearby device(s) instead. I guess it depends on the location, whether you can have a car parked nearby, etc. Or if it's near your home or office, maybe you can have a fixed camera watching the scene.

If your phone is confiscated, you can't count on getting it back. Upload the video to a server or another nearby machine (maybe another phone) as you shoot it. There are apps for that purpose of course.

I have Fossify Gallery as my default image viewer but I'm still using the pre-installed Google camera app. Am I affected by this scanning? I haven't gotten around to checking out other camera apps.

That's sort of a perennial question but you can look on thingiverse for lots of designs, some of which might interest you. Me, I need a replacement front cover for my ancient vacuum cleaner, for which original parts are no longer available. It's 3d printable but would need a fairly large printer. I might try carving from wood instead. A Shapeoko would be great for that, but since I don't mind it looking like crap, I might just try with hand tools.

One thing that can help (more for libraries than large applications) is "dependency cooldowns". Basically don't use the latest version of anything until a few weeks after its release. The hope is that most malicious changes or blatant bugs will be caught fairly early. https://blog.yossarian.net/2025/11/21/We-should-all-be-using-dependency-cooldowns

Nice. The 4g module is $17.90 from digikey, much less than last time I looked. I wonder if there's a 5g version. I also wonder if there's any issue using retail sim cards and making LTE voice calls.

If I want you to see my webpages I'll send you links or post them someplace relevant. That doesn't completely stop sloperators and other scrapers but it at least slows them down. The more private pages are password protected or whatnot.
