The Greens already have my vote, but if they didn’t this announcement about long distance passenger rail could definitely sway me! #NZPol #PassengerRail https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/politics_election-2026/1701879/green-party-announces-plan-for-passenger-rail-between-major-nz-cities

In this house there are - clocks that need adjusting for DST that are intuitive and easy to do: the microwave - clocks that need adjusting and I have to check the manual: the hot water timer; the weather station - clocks that need adjusting and I have to check the manual but I refuse to do it and it can stay wrong for 6 months or until a power cut forces a reset: the oven 😵‍💫 #DaylightSavingTime #clocks

Anyway this has made me curious. Do people even know these songs still? 🤔 This calls for a poll! Do you know the song ‘Show me the way to go home’ and/or a parody version?

For some unknown reason I have an earworm of the ancient song “Indicate the route to my abode”, a parody version of “Show me the way to go home”. I haven’t heard anyone sing it for decades but my brain decided to dig it out. I haven’t been drinking either 😆 For those who aren’t familiar, Wikipedia has various versions, none of which exactly match the one I know. #earworm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Show_Me_the_Way_to_Go_Home

As the time to pay the annual domain fee approaches, I’m considering deleting my blog. I haven’t posted on it for over 2 years! Due to fatigue it’s unlikely I’ll want to post during the next couple of years - it’s always been a thing I do occasionally when I feel like it, but it requires mental energy. I started it in 2015. There are only 22 posts, but they are mostly quite long. Topics are varied, including some history things, my breast cancer experiences, being car free, and quite a few on b...

I just emailed my power company, Ecotricity, to express my annoyance at their cheerful introduction of a new AI chatbot assistant. Their whole shtick is about being fully renewable and climate positive (though of course they’re now part of one of the bigger power companies so we have to take that far less seriously than we once could). Energy-greedy AI does not sit well with that ethos. I’m sure they won’t take much notice of my views, but maybe other customers will contact them too. #AI #ene...

Had a good appointment with my GP yesterday. Sadly the change in medication did not help my fatigue. I have 2 years of my 5-year course to go, and I’ve decided to stick with it. My particular sort of breast cancer has a high risk of recurrence so I want to do my best to prevent that. It means I will be living with fatigue for 2 more years, but I know (from a 6-week trial break) when I finish the meds I will feel a lot better! After 3 years I have adjusted (mostly) to living this way - some thi...

I’m sad to learn of the death of one of this country’s best historians, Erik Olssen. A great researcher, writer and teacher and also a very nice person. RIP. The news hasn’t reached Wikipedia at the time I post this, but was in this morning’s ODT. #NZHistory https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erik_Olssen

Pumpkins are such good value. I haven’t grown any this year, but last week I bought a crown pumpkin cheap. So far I’ve used it as the main ingredient for soup (5 servings), risotto (4 servings) and curry (6 servings). There’s still a quarter left! #pumpkins #thrift

So it seems our government wants to invest in an industry that - checks notes - is making the world a worse place, as well as using massive amounts of energy and water 🤦🏻‍♀️ So depressing. The story is in this morning’s ODT but paywalled (apologies but I don’t have the spoons to transcribe the whole thing and obviously won’t use AI to do that). #NZPol #DataCentres
