If “cute” was a German word, it would be written kjüt. I just realized that the English language does have the German ü sound. But it does not have the ö sound.

    > AI Companies Are Buying Tons of Old Books Because They're Free of AI Slop Pre-2022 content will become more and more valuable. People will more and more start watching older movies specifically because they aren’t contaminated with AI. That’s how I feel about CGI already. Movies from the 1980s have better acting because it had to be coordinated with time-consuming special effects. Today it’s just casual acting in front of green screens and “we’ll do it in post” https://www.40...

Xiaomi phones have system apps (e.g. Mi Music) that periodically show slop notifications that cannot be disabled. This is anti-user.

What are your views on those big buttons in the hero section of a website that, when clicked, scroll down to the next section of the page? I don’t like them. Scrolling down is the most natural thing that the user does on the web. There is no need to incite the user to scroll. If the user does not scroll, they’re just not interested, and no button can “fix” that. The button is just clutter. I don’t like clutter on web pages. Web pages should be as simple as possible. Zero clutter.

If you listen to YouTube in a background tab on your laptop, know that music.youtube.com is lighter (less JS) than regular www.youtube.com. 8 MB vs. 14 MB.

A slight redesign of Firefox just dropped in @firefoxnightly. All the UI elements have very round edges now. … Probably not the first time in Firefox’s history.

Firefox devtools has a useful little feature that makes debugging CSS quicker. When a CSS declaration is overridden by another declaration, Firefox puts a Filter button next to it. Click the button to highlight all instances of that property, including shorthands that contain this property!

Check out this weird scrolling behavior on Polymarket’s website: 1. it scrolls the page 2. it scrolls the smaller left column 3. it scrolls the entire page again, but only for a bit 4. it scrolls the main column 5. finally it’s back to scrolling the entire page (the rubberband effect) This is without moving the mouse at all (!!). You just put the mouse cursor somewhere on the page and start scrolling, and it behaves like this. Not ideal. Probably confusing and disorienting for some users.

Dropping tabs into tab groups in @firefoxnightly does not work well in vertical tabs. It would be better if there was a little drop area to the right of the tab group “pill” where you could drop new tabs without causing the pill to move up/down
