genAI purports to increase velocity, but it only increases speed.

In the (very) end, the genAI debate might split on do you like to work on software alone, or in a community because hearing “I don’t know, Claude made it” when asking “That’s nice, how did you make it?” tires real quick.

I'm looking for a web/iOS app that helps me keep track of the passage of time and (life) events. Fot instance, when did I meet my friend for the last time? Was it 3 or 4 weeks ago? How long have I been swimming? 3 or 4 years? When did we go to country Y on holiday for the last time? I’ve some kind of time blindness that chops past events into disconnected pieces and chucks them in a big bowl of soup, making finding and reasoning about past events somewhat of a challenge.

“It’s my hope that you'll now be able to take the many lessons of a psychologically informed approach to software with you and use psychology to make your next environment a little more human than you found it.” I'm really liking the "a little more human than you found it" bit. https://books.apple.com/nl/book/the-psychology-of-software-teams/id6759925276 by Cat Hicks.

Has anyone researched the effect of modern car design on people’s moods/psyche/mindset? The angry/aggressive head light design makes moving through a city feel like wading through an angry/aggressive crowd that doesn’t want you to be there at all. I can’t be the only one seeing angry faces everywhere?

The biggest part of "writing the code" was/is gaining an understanding of the system you’re building, but more often, extending. Especially when working with mature/“brownfield" (dislike this term a lot) systems. If you say you're not reading the code anymore without telling me how you’re gaining an understanding of the system, you're simply skipping that step. "Development" is indeed accelerated, right until something breaks or is...

@samplereality@post.lurk.org Nice! I’ll see if I can get one of my kids to try it out when it’s out.

Remembered The Incredible Machine 2 from my childhood, showed it to my son in DOSBOX in the browser, looked up its Wikipedia entry while he was at it, saw that its makers created Contraption Maker in 2014, played the demo, bought the full game and now he’s solving solving wacky machine puzzles with his sisters 🤟🏼

"Production code was crap long before genAI arrived. I don't see a problem here.” Sure, it’s just that we're genAIying lots more of it now.

I’m apparently so used to cookie banners on the web these days that I realized https://feedbin.com/ doesn’t have one only when I landed on a competitor’s site. I’ve therefore created an account and will hopefully migrate from Feedly shortly.

I don’t get nerdsniped often but @mechasystems’s handheld Linux computer Comet resonates on all frequencies. https://mecha.so/comet#overview
