When subversion came out, everyone switched from cvs because you could rename files without losing all the files' history, and branches were cheap. We branched all the time. Do a release? Make a branch. But we never ever merged. I tried to merge once in a "feature branch"-like pattern. It was a bookkeeping nightmare. You all don't know how good you have it with #git despite git being a UX disaster in its own right. Just manually track your revisions. https://edoras.sdsu.edu/do...

These array-based languages, e.g., APL and uiua, are _hard_ for me to make heads or tails of. They are so dense. So much happens in so few characters, but that's kind of the fun too. https://www.uiua.org #programming

I swear to god, I will never buy anything that claims to be tactical. A tactical hoodie? Give me a break. It's like a weird way to say "for men” who are eager to live through the break down of the social fabric and violence is expected.

“In my opinion, there is nothing in the programming field more despicable than an uncommented program. A programmer can be forgiven many sins and flights of fancy, including many of those listed in the sections below; however, no programmer, no matter how wise, no matter how experienced, no matter how hard-pressed for time, no matter how well-intentioned, should be forgiven an uncommented and undocumented program. “—Edward Yourdon, Techniques of program structure and design (1975)

Holy shit. If United Arab Emirates dumps the dollar, America’s infinite financial cushion will have finally popped. Then what has America got? Just a big, old army that now plunders and pirates the seas, and all of its former allies investing in their own defense. https://x.com/RealBRICSnews/status/2046073949264785594

Now I'm trying to play a Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 in French for the first time with French audio and subtitles. It reminds me when I started reading novels as a kid with a dictionary on hand—instead of just inferring the wrong meaning at every new word. It's slow going. The first tutorial fight probably took me a half hour, but it feels so rewarding too. It's neat to not know and learn new things at every turn of the page or press of the button. 2/

TIL in rust you can construct a positional struct using a field struct expression. The indices can even be in arbitrary order. #rustlang

TEACHER: Where did you get this solution? STUDENT: I came up with it myself. TEACHER: Sit down, Mr. Andersen. You could all learn something from him. He doesn’t just use LaTeX for his papers. He uses it on the blackboard! I’ve never seen it done. Surely, he will go on to do great things.
