Nathaniel Borenstein (of MIME / email) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathaniel_Borenstein will be on the show live Tuesday-evening-in-the-Americas next week talking about his new #bookstodon, The Spirit of a Cyborg (still reading my review copy of). https://ipubcloud.org/products/the-spirit-of-a-cyborg He shares an autobiographical view of what happened with internet and email (and AI) viz what is happening with AI and the need for focus on #ethics in #AI...

#patreon aggregation thread. Since it basically increased daily viewership by something like 1% by posting one video once to go fishing on Patreon, I'm making adding #lispyGopherClimate #technology #podcast episodes-classic a regular thing over there. The intent is to fish for #lisp ( #curl ?) users over there and bring them into the weekly shows (and #lambdaMOO #VR !) rather than send you over there. Boosts welcome for this thread. @bagder@mastodon.social and @kentpitman@climatejustice.s...

#dailyWords [ 2822 / 24000 ] #writing yesterday I clearly wrote 2822 words (95%+ prose) of my #commonLisp #DL book draft In June. I reached a minor decision point and eventually lost consciousness in its pickling brine. I decided to peg my check-in-on-how-the-book-is-going at 24000 words. At my current instantaneous velocity, this will take about 10 days. Somewhat to my surprise, the book is extremely, extremely picture heavy, almost coffee-table heavy.

Do you worry that > software engineering best practices that make sense in the context of large scale products is just low effort busywork that people who privately resent their employer can log time against without controversy. I guess I am reminded of Kay saying that we are neither doing science nor engineering, but rather we are a sort of designers. What if more stuff is actually as erroneous as Agile Management Methodologies.

Viz our agreement yesterday that we need to spend time physically experiencing historic #lispm s see https://gamerplus.org/@screwlisp/116564660132149660 I had the thought that Like how right now, software and devloging that established pre-2022 are kind of the safe ones that are not fundamentally an LLM grift, Lisp machines are complete programming systems (medley, MIT-CADR, opengenera) that are also untainted by Meatbook/Boogle/Microslops. Same for the ANSI Common Lisp standard and CLIM II s...

@mdhughes Just because you were looking at modula-2 - when I was looking up Vassil's book recommendation of Liskov and Guttag before, their names at least also occur in Charles Lins' The Modula-2 Software Component Library: Volume 3. @vnikolov I'm interpreting your book recommendation before as Abstraction and Specification in Program Development 1986.

@aartaka@merveilles.town I had this feeling when I noticed I could just change +1 and -1 to foo and (complement foo) in a hopfield network, which is an implementation of (is dual to) 1 layer ffnn deep learning (it turned out; they didn't know this originally). Then, all the conventional wisdom about the disadvantages and advantages of deep learning seem to mostly have been artifacts of the string encoding being used. @neauoire@merveilles.town what should I read about your connexions (or...
