I saw this little one person electric vehicle in a mall parking lot the other day and then again blocking traffic on a 60 km/h road nearby where I'm pretty sure the Ontario electric vehicle experiment doesn't allow them. I wondered because I don't think there's any way to get to this mall legally in this – they're allowed on 50 km/h streets, and this mall can only be reached by a 60, a 70 and a shared use (bike) path. #electricVehicles

I should take a camera on the dog's every first trip out in the morning. Today's surprise was a cluster of large ink cap mushrooms under the tree. (Tennis ball for scale.)

From CTV today: “I feel sorry for Americans,” said B.C. Premier David Eby. “If you can’t be friends with Canada, then you almost certainly do not have a friend anywhere in the world. “And that is a very lonely place to be.”

Of the food borne illnesses in the news I wondered what happened to good old fashioned ptomaine poisoning. Why isn't anyone getting the dreaded ptomaine poisoning any more? Ptomaine is a generic term for decomposition products like cadaverine and putrescine, which are not particularly dangerous, it's the bacteria that makes people sick. Now I need to go look up Lumbago ...

With a second (and spectacular) fire in a few months, the Ottawa fire service says that removing weeds with a propane torch is a bad idea. Even a short time after getting 10 cm of rain. #weeds https://youtu.be/UGgbDtI8BzA

I came across this excellent explantion of "humidex" on Reddit Humidex is kind of goofy. It's designed to approximate using a Canadian as a thermometer. If you ask the Canadian, "What temperature does it feel like to you?", their answer will probably be something close to humidex. I'm not making this up. 1/3

From the article "The vehicle was impounded for a week, and the driver’s license was pulled for 90 days." I can't imagine him going to pick it up at the impound lot. Arnprior man charged after ditching flaming vehicle on Highway 29 | 96.1 Renfrew Today https://www.renfrewtoday.ca/2026/06/26/314988/

I can see why the Canadian Wood Council wants more wooden apartment buildings, but I don't think I'm going to be comfortable with six or more flights of flammable exit stairs. #buildingcode Ontario sees jump in mid-rise wood construction following 2023 building code change - North Bay News https://www.baytoday.ca/local-news/cost-effective-and-efficient-residential-wood-construction-growing-in-popularity-12404128

@TechConnectify The last time I was able to buy dishwasher detergent as a box of powder, it was actually a solid lump in the shape of the box. Not so easy to scoop as I had hoped. I hate dishwasher pills, and I hate unwrapping them, and I hate having to touch them while unwrapping them.

@weirdestate This house in Ottawa was once an ordinary bungalow, but a big room and fireplace was added to the front, and the decor is not something I can easily describe. I don't know what is holding up the middle of the old part, there used to be a wall. (Bonus challenge, try to find the basement stairs.) https://www.realtor.ca/real-estate/29406769/33-rutherford-crescent-ottawa-9001-kanata-beaverbrook
