I built Light Touch, a full-featured iPod touch 2G emulator for Mac. Networking + Wayback Machine proxy, GLES/3D games support, a built-in app store via legacystore.app, rotation, screen capture, the works. Have fun https://github.com/samhenrigold/LightTouchMac/releases It's still rough around the edges but wanted to share sooner rather than later.

RE: https://hachyderm.io/@samhenrigold/117306102597921216 Apple secretly back-ported Core Animation to the 10.4 Tiger fork used by the original ATV, so I extracted the binary, transplanted it into actual Tiger, and now we have Core Animation. A Christmas miracle. The context is that I'm trying to build 2026 WebKit for 10.4 on Intel, it's going surprisingly well. CSS 3D was a big question mark before this discovery, fonts were also a gap before discovering that Core Text was already in...

cloudflare released a tunnel product that was seemingly entirely vibe-coded, so now you can google dork to snoop on everyone’s localhost. what a time to be alive

RE: https://hachyderm.io/@samhenrigold/117027375873199705 If you wanna try out the iOS 3 emulator, I bundled it all into a single Mac app. You can join a fake wifi network and install apps by dragging them onto the window. https://github.com/samhenrigold/qemu-ios/releases And obviously the best way to get period-correct apps is on https://legacystore.app :P

I've been listening to some internet radio recently and onlineradiobox is a wonderful website because it uses a completely broken quotes API. like I'm pretty sure the lead singer of Boys Like Girls was not talking about healthcare data but I could be wrong.

hey if you ever want to have a fucking TERRIBLE time in this mortal coil, try figuring out how to configure custom document icon artwork in Xcode. (the answer, btw, is to go into your Asset catalog, create a "macOS Generic Icon" and then it will appear in the "Icon Image" picker in the target's Info tab. Not remotely obvious and not a super fun thing to debug since it requires nuking your icon cache every time you make a change)

this is not technically a launch announcement since I'm still goofin around with things but I've been working on https://legacystore.app, a massive index of old iOS apps on archive.‍org. It's got historical charts and you can visit/install directly on older devices, too.

I'm hoping this means working with markdown in native text views is less painful. If they built a markdown table renderer and kept it private im gonna lose my mind

I’m a little confused on the architecture of the new siri personal intelligence. They made a big fuss about spotlight being better, but is it a RAG system? is it just an agent that knows how to write those weird spotlight language queries?

seeing some new faces here! welcome. here are the ground rules: - there are none. there is no “using it wrong”. - use content warnings however you want (or not at all) - ignore tone policing. it can get a bit much, so… - …if someone gives you the ick, block ‘em. our time is short and valuable — there’s no point in spending some of it letting some dude hound you in replies for not calling Twitter “the bird site”. that guy sucks. enjoy your stay besties ☺️✌️✨
