There’s a survey going around by someone trying to collect better sizing data for trans adults who have been on HRT long term (ie body stabilised in shape). It asks for a lot of measurements and just “are you transfem or transmasc”. No identifying details. Please fill it out trans friends, because having sizing charts and patterns that fit trans people better would be great! https://tinyurl.com/Trans-Standard-Sizing

I was a lasagna non-believer. A lasagna infidel. And then my beautiful wife made her beautiful lasagna. A religious experience. So delicious. Now I am a lasagna believer. I would do terrible things for her lasagna.

Hi Cathode folks, There’s a security update for mastodon coming out in approx 12 hours (overnight). Depending on the severity, cathode church may be offline for several hours until I am able to apply patches. You can now check https://status.cathode.church for updates!

Recently at work we replaced a component of an Audio DSP server (glorified PC) which was a PCIe MADI interface. It has a redundant twin with the same version card as the original (not changed). The new one now outputs wordclock at a 180° phase offset to the old one (inverted), for the same wordclock input signal. Crucially, the new one is correct — the wordclock output is in phase with the input. It’s the old ones that are wrong. However, now it also doesn’t work properly. Do we need a replac...

My bank just emailed me to say that because I haven’t used my two factor auth recently (they only require it for specific actions), they’re disabling it on my account. What kind of a batshit security posture is that?!!

Remember this thread? https://cathode.church/@s0/114959788512020266 Well today I dissected another cheap USB PSU, this time a simple “10W” 5V one with a single USB-A outlet. And folks, this one was a shocker. Literally. ✅ start with the good — pin sheathing on correctly sized pins, and it fits nicely in a standard Australian outlet footprint. 🚨 downhill from here — the case is flimsy, thin, and poorly glued. It would easily break open from a fall or knock. 🚨 The PCB underside makes a go at...

Tested out the long-awaited PocketPD from CrowdSupply that arrived -- it's as dope as I was hoping! Gonna be a killer to have in the portable kit. Being able to get a decent 3-20V 5A DC source with only this and a cheap GaN USB C charger is phenomenal. #Tinkering

This lighting console UI is the result of thirty years of incremental learning on UX for professionals working in a world where time is the single most valuable thing. It is effectively displaying a relational database with dozens of inter- and intra-dependent tables*, using a smorgasbord of visual cues and a completely custom keyboard for recall and access. It can be used by near-novices with a very simple subject-verb-object command line syntax, with graphical feedback. Everything beyond the...

This is your regular PSA to learn the “over-under method” of rolling cables! Coiling a cable the ‘normal’ way, whether just in your hands, around your elbow, or somewhere else, imparts a 1/2 axial twist to the cable each time. That’s the main thing that causes your extension cables to develop kinks and degrade! If you use the over-under method, the 1/2 twist is counteracted by a -1/2 twist every second loop, so the cable is kept flat and unstressed. This can hugely increase the lifetime of your...

Any of our under-employed frontend coder cadre on here interested in a bit of work to update the [Cathode Church](https://cathode.church) flavour/theme to work with the new mastodon frontend? My CSS skills are outdated and I don’t have the time rn, but the style is crucial to the vibe of cathode to me. Getting them updated will let me bring the server up to date with security and bugfixes too. It’s SCSS and Vite, and possibly a couple minor JS patches. The current tree will be visible at https...
