I hadn’t realised that Firefox now generates tagged PDFs when printing, that’s super nice functionality: https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org/accessible/TaggedPdfOutput.html (thanks @jcsteh@aus.social!)

Writing some Tailwind for once, and it really feels like one of those mass industry illusions we’ll wake up from soon and wonder why on earth we thought that was a good idea.

Nice to see electric ferries becoming a thing. My local ferry service to Denmark has two of their three boats electric. And I’ve just booked a ferry to Fanø where one of the two is.

Quite pleased with my latest #standardEbooks cover, managed to find a werewolf-esque wolf (that has more than a passing resemblence to my scottie) in the background of a much larger 17th century Dutch painting: https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/en/collection/object/Satire-on-the-Trial-of-Johan-van-Oldenbarnevelt--268c4128e80a5ed0e5234c7fb496a12e

Today’s front-end learning: a valid ID that’s not a valid selector (e.g. one with a `\,` in it) can be made selectable with querySelector by first passing it through CSS.escape. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/CSS/escape_static

@SmudgeTheInsultCat one of my prouder moments at GDS was replacing a photo of Cameron with a photo of Larry in the then-design-system. https://github.com/alphagov/govuk_elements/pull/373

The Aeron of Theseus continues, with new old stock fabric arm pads. Apparently Enron (where this chair came from originally) special-ordered fabric ones for unknown reasons. In the last 30 years it’s had two new gas struts, a new base mesh, support foam, and now arm pads. I reckon it’s easily got the same life left in it.

Putting together a compilation of short stories by Catherine Louisa Pirkis (of Loveday Brooke, Lady Detective fame) and I really love this archaeology part. I’ve already transcribed 2–3 shorts from 1870s magazine scans that aren’t on her Wikipedia page. But there’s a novella called “Trooping with Crows” with no public scans available. Luckily you can pay British Library to digitise books from their collection, so #standardEbooks will have the first publication since 1880 (for free of course).

Looks like the Fehmarn tunnel can start progressing again. This will make train journeys into Europe so much quicker. https://www.vk.se/2026-04-03/efter-tva-ar-nu-kan-tunneln-laggas-danmarktyskland-bfea0

Putting an old Apple Time Capsule up for sale so reset it to factory settings, but out of caution double-checked and found that the reset just reset the settings, not the drive contents, so they’re now being wiped. Then I remembered that I’d bought the same box second-hand on eBay and when it turned up I found the drive full of recordings of US military planning sessions for Afghanistan operations. Those got deleted sharpish.

Not sure what I was expecting from an orchestral arrangement of Arkanoid, but this exceeded it: https://youtu.be/b7aa7Dajw0M

I’ve only read the idea prompts in @rottytooth’s Forty-Four Esolangs so far but they’re genuinely beautiful, and, in an age of LLMs eating the normal, they seem almost transgressively human. https://danieltemkin.com/Esolangs
