Migrating off Google Authenticator: On the one hand annoying, on the other hand I get to cosplay as Miles Vorkosigan, so who am I to complain? (You can create export QR codes. You cannot take screenshots for security reasons. I have a webcam. I am Miles Vorkosigan.)

With cheap server upgrades on Hetzner being unavailable, I'm going back to the roots, babyyyy (all my servers have grown swapfiles over the last month. swapon like it's 2008)

I did not realise I had strong feelings on docstrings. I use them sparingly, and while they are a hack, at least they serve a good purpose. I know people have opinions on the placement of line breaks and quotes, but I thought I was above these things. That this was Python programmers yearning for curly-brace level style wars. I was mistaken. I just encountered docstrings written in regular quotes rather than triple quotes and, no, apparently I DO have strong feelings on docstrings. #python

ATTENTION, Public Service Announcement: Do not upgrade your npm. Do not upgrade to 5.7.0, released yesterday. It changes file permissions of /etc, /boot, /user, … when run with sudo. Avoid, duck, cover, whimper. https://github.com/npm/npm/issues/19883

It brings me great joy to block my first drive-by AI open source PR guy <3 (not for using AI; for drive-by spamming a PR and then returning with the same PR two weeks later after I closed his first one explaining why it was not suitable to be merged at this point)

Where would I go if I wanted reliable CI for my Python software project? Running tests, linting checks, docs checks, translation checks and so on. Does not need to produce build artifacts (though seeing console output of the process would be nice for debugging reasons). With GitHub Workflows approaching Travis-levels of reliability, I'm at "some 9s would be nice"

I am so very confused Like, I'm glad to be back at 32GB of memory, though I'd have preferred it if I hadn't had to buy 16GB for more than 32GB cost me a few months ago But also wdym each works fine on its own but one always produced errors when used with others

Delightful morning reading: “An ssh adventure” (or: smuggling your bashrc onto remote servers) The perfect amount of unhinged. I was already sold on reading the whole thing and giggling throughout when I got to “The filesystem is basically global state, global state is morally wrong.” https://gitlab.com/-/snippets/2149340
