Hephaestus, greek god of craft & metallurgy, was born with short deformed leg and his mother Hera cast him out of Olympos. He grew up and became a master craftsman, so that Hera herself ended up asking for his work. He made her a splendid throne, but when she sat on it, she could not get up again. Hephaestus was summoned to free his mother, to which he replied he had no mother. Later he relented, and got Aphrodite (or Athena) as wife in exchange for his service. #MythologyMonday

Ciao Franco, buon riposo. #FrancoBare...

Some years ago the majestic horse chestnut trees in my neighborhood started getting sick, and the city gardening service started cutting them down, and after a while they started replanting some other ones (red horse chestnuts, presumably resistant to the disease). I remember being upset, at the thought of these scrawny little things replacing the old ones. But, the saying is right, the best day to plant a tree was ten years ago, the next best day is today. #trees #urbannature

looks like there's a #MortalKombat2 movie out. I thought, ah, maybe I should rewatch the first, I think it was bad but maybe I don't remember. Nope, It's shit. It's incredible how they managed to make such a bad movie. I cannot understand how they managed to make another one and who's going to see it after seeing the first one. #movies

@ifixcoinops@retro.social worth mentioning: it's very easy to run a personal blog or site that actually integrates with the fediverse (e.g. Wordpress with the officially supported activitypub plugin).

I binge watched "a knight of the seven kingdoms" and I loved it (my son liked it too). It has a very different vibe from game of thrones, more uplifting and fun, and it's a nice refresh from the scheming and thousands characters madness of House of the Dragon. AFAIU there's a few stories of Dunk and Egg, so I hope they have a few other single-arc seasons in store. #GameOfThrones #aknightofthesevenkingdoms #tvseries

Yesterday I had a day out with a few friends I hadn't seen in a while, and we ended up talking about AI. Two of them (one in management/commerce, one in academia/physics) are actually using paid subscriptions for #AI tooling. While I already knew that was common for coders these are the first non-techies I hear getting enough value to be willing to pay for it. I still think there's a financial bubble, but once more: please don't put your head in the sand about this stu...

#music #musica https://www.ilpost.it/2026/05/01/kneecap-fenian-nuovo-disco/

a not-story for #MythologyMonday on the theme of #stars The Greeks didn't know the star they saw in the morning was the same they saw in the evening (Venus), and gave them 2 different names: Phosphoros and Esperos. Phosphoros: is a cool name, "light bearer", but it's more popular in his latin version: Lucifer. Centuries later a german alchemist was trying to obtain the philosopher's stone, and managed to get some luminous substance. He gave the new...
