https://www.animatedknots.com/tie-a-windsor-necktie-knot “The names were created in honor of the Duke of Windsor although he preferred a Four-in-Hand himself.” WHAT (I’ve always been a little ashamed to prefer a Four-In-Hand … my dad taught me a Full Windsor when I was maybe 10 and I remember thinking something along the lines of “oh so Duplo does men’s fashion now this sucks I feel like I’m in a Hanna-Barbera cartoon about neckties.”)

Having sat with the AI For All strategy for a week: 1. this is just a too-clever-by-half nightmare in sans-serif; and 2. how in tarnation can any government get it so backwards, at an "I guess wet streets cause rain?" level, to frame a central problem as a widespread lack of trust by citizens rather than a widespread lack of trustworthiness by tech companies?

ok having now read Canada's national AI strategy doc, I note that the word "trust" appears 44 times in 50 pages, but "we will devote the considerable resources of the state to making an example of a rich sociopath or two" as one path towards increased trust appears no times (perhaps that's tactics not strategy? I dunno I'm not a government guy)

we appreciate you calling support again today, and want you to know that we hear you as you scream in frustration, as if into an uncaring void, about how we are not listening to you, that does indeed sound frustrating and we would be frustrated too if this was happening to us is this the issue we can help you with today please press 1 if this is correct and it would be a big help to us if you would stay on the call after to complete a short survey

Is there a Rails of writing documentation? Like, I don't want to think about the system at all. I want something reliable and non-hideous to look at where I can get in, do some writing, get out, have it be readable and linkable and get actively punished for tweaking the system.

I don’t think I need to wonder any more how the opinions of the earliest or even middle-laterest people pointing out mesothelioma in meetings about asbestos were received.

a funny bit is "we use claude code to make claude code" is one of those Rorschachian sentences that you could never reliably sentiment-analyze, kind of like "he has unique ideas, you'll be very lucky if you can get him to work for you"

people making the argument “LLMs are good for code now; don't get left behind” sound to me like they're saying “Doritos taste better than vegetables; we should make them a food group” like it's not incorrect on the first part but also maybe there's some missing nuance there around the ways that human brains respond to usually-correct automation/enormous amounts of salt

Reading an e-book and suddenly wondering why the table of contents is at the “start” and the index is at the “end” instead of being dedicated zones of the UI entirely outside the flow. (Oh, right, because Amazon bought every single promising e-book upstart 10+ years ago and doesn’t care, and the lone person Apple has had working on Books.app has only so many hours in the day, right, I forgot).
