"how can we avoid losing an entire generation of students to AI" is the question to be asking right now https://mezha.net/eng/bukvy/ca117584_denmark_requires_oral/

is this bullshit? or does ISA not really matter in some fictitious world where we can normalize for process and other factors? https://www.techpowerup.com/340779/amd-claims-arm-isa-doesnt-offer-efficiency-advantage-over-x86

Yingwei's work on the LLVM undefined behavior aware interpreter proceeds! this is super good stuff. it would have been nice if we could have made Alive2's interpreter mode fast enough that this tool wasn't necessary, but oh well. hopefully someone will do some differential testing between this tool and Alive2. https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/pull/195339

I wasn't expecting a vegan main from the Balkans but this is on the menu for tonight at my house (this is perhaps simply a product of my ignorance of food from this region, which is substantial) https://bakinghermann.com/tavce-gravce-macedonian-baked-beans/

well that's a really deep analysis. I wonder if any other airlines would like to know that every single person fucking hates them.

"We conducted a quasi-experimental field study on the Milan metro, observing 138 rides. In the control condition, a female experimenter, appearing pregnant, boarded the train with an observer. In the experimental condition, an additional experimenter dressed as Batman entered from another door. Passengers were significantly more likely to offer their seat when Batman was present" https://www.nature.com/articles/s44184-025-00171-5

instead of allowing these folks to raise 1.75 trillion dollars, how about we burn the company to the ground and salt the earth where their buildings had been located? just an idea https://www.reuters.com/world/spacex-warns-that-inquiries-into-sexually-abusive-ai-imagery-may-hurt-market-2026-04-23/

maybe this could be avoided if academic papers came with some sort of short summary. if this were provided by the authors, then we wouldn't need to rely on expensive and unreliable tools to generate them. think how convenient it would be if the authors put these summaries right near the start of the paper!! https://www.sigarch.org/the-role-of-llms-in-academic-reviewing/

what's the largest collection of compiler engineers who have ever worked at the same place, at the same time? I've heard that IBM might have had hundreds at one point, and I've heard that Nvidia might have over 1000 right now. anyone else have good data points here?

this is a lovely post, where someone takes formally verified code, fuzzes it, and finds real problems. while reading the piece, I was thinking about my own very similar experience ~15 years ago fuzzing CompCert. and then the author makes this precise comparison :) https://kirancodes.me/posts/log-who-watches-the-watchers.html

RE: https://social.treehouse.systems/@whitequark/116401201394905560 idea here is that instead of avoiding OOM by limiting linker parallelism, have the build manager detect impending OOM, kill an expedient process, and then restart it later when conditions are more favorable, degenerating all the way to "ninja -j1" if needed. anyone know if this has been done?
