More than 5000 Spokane homes have been evacuated. At least 640 structures destroyed. Probably the worst fire in Washington state's history. I have to stay indoors today with air cleaners running. The sun is deep orange. I had to evacuate last year. Thanks fossil fuels for making the Pacific NW US a hell hole this time every year. https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2026/aug/01/fast-moving-fire-breaks-out-in-airway-heights-area/ #ClimateChange #Spokane #Washington #SolarPunk #Fire #Climat...

@Pepijn I know what Wildberries is. It's that company which produces huge smoke clouds. How they make money doing that I don't know.

Servant of the People starring Volodymyr Zelenskyy.🇺🇦 The great 2015 political satire comedy which led to Zelenskyy's presidency. It's a very well done show in every way. First season, episodes 1 through 23, have English subtitles. https://archive.org/details/servant-of-the-people-ukraine #Ukraine #Zelenskyy #Russia #TV #Zelensky #humor

The only (somewhat) decent photo I got from the aurora last night (E. Washington-WA). The bright Moon rose soon after and washed it out. I could still see the aurora for about an hour after this photo but it looked very faint. I shook my fist at the Moon and cursed it. #aurora #space

Some people find baby deer and think they're abandoned. They aren't. Their moms are away eating to rebuild their strength. I saw this little one days later with its mom. #silentsunday #nature #animals #deer

I just made an excellent find on Peertube. Concert footage from yesterday of a great French punk band with a powerful female vocalist. The band is KING KONG MEUF and their videos were just uploaded. #punk #punkrock #music #France #PeerTube #Fediverse #JukeboxFridayNight https://www.yiny.org/w/2Nwh6ZahSmBhwyK5KHxjfu

@HopelessDemigod Aw, I want to watch CBC over the air. I listen to CBC radio. You folks get to watch our local PBS TV station OTA (KSPS Spokane, WA). Here's their coverage map, which I find pretty amazing. Maybe if we could watch better programming down here our nation wouldn't be quite as nutty.😉

@HopelessDemigod Cool. AM for me with old transistor radios from thrift stores. Of the 15 I've tested so far, the Panasonic R-1551 is the best.

@HopelessDemigod Great map, thanks. I picked up Winnepeg last month when my power went out. AM DXing is meh in my house unless I turn off all of the power. I pick up Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver with the power on.

A great Peertube find! Kickass women on guitars and vocals! Toybloïd is a French punk / garage rock band founded in 2007 by two women, Lou Sirkis and Madeleine Loiseau. Greg Mugnier joined as drummer in 2016. They sing in English. Their lyrics are about feminism, LGBTQ+, and their own lives. They've opened for L7, The Offspring, and The Undertones. #punk #lgbtq #lgbtqia #feminism #indie #alternative #PeerTube #Fediverse https://www.yiny.org/w/dhHwHjacZ1a7jks9AVdLVS

"THERE'S TOO MANY FUCKING BOYS ON STAGE!!!" All woman French punk band Mary Bell. Frontwoman Alice Carlier and guitarist Victoria Arfi were classical musicians. They discovered grunge and riot grrrl and the rest is l'histoire. A PeerTube find. YouTube is trash. :youtubetrash: #musicwomenwednesday #punk #feminism #riotgrrrl #peertube #grunge #music #France https://www.yiny.org/w/hpKC2c237naE2H4bbkrU9D

I finally found the location of the crater the Artemis II crew just named after Commander Reid Wiseman's deceased wife Carroll Taylor Wiseman. She died of cancer in 2020. Interesting location. Carroll is a small crater that we probably can't see from Earth, but from here we can easily know where it is. On a clock face it would be at around 9:47. #ArtemisII #space #moon #Artemis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carroll_(crater)

@HopelessDemigod I really enjoyed listening to NPR on my battery powered radio when the power was off. It was a nice break from the screens. These days you folks are getting hit harder in winters than we are. Best wishes.

Dance scene I edited from "The Night Court" (1927). This was one of the very first talkies. It was shot while "The Jazz Singer" was being made next door. The dance costumes were used in both movies. The sound was recorded on a Vitaphone disk synced to the film. I found a really nice digital copy of the original disk and added that audio to this scene. #ThrowbackThursday #film # #cinema #movies #1920s #jazz https://makertube.net/w/ori5PpAdAsp14xQUVGbdYC
