Has anyone here been vaccinated against Shingles with the (fairly new) Shingrix vaccine? Interested to hear about your experience.

Public tours of Ardnacrusha start on 1 July. Have just booked. If you're interested, I'd suggest you book quickly as available slots seem to be filling up fast. It's free, too. https://esb.ie/who-we-are/ardnacrusha-tours-2025 #MastoDaoine

For anyone who wants to support them by buying merch, the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign shop is now open again until 19 October. Amongst other things, they sell keffiyehs (kufiyas) made by Hirbawi in Palestine (though only the black on white and red on white designs). Hirbawi's own shop is currently showing everything sold out so this is a good opportunity to grab one. IPSC is also a lot cheaper (though obviously that's not the main consideration for something of this...

So what percentage turnout will there be for the Irish presidential election on Friday? #Áras2025 #Áras25 #MastoDaoine Boosts appreciated. Will close the poll Friday morning. Edit: OK, so I just discovered that changing the duration of a poll resets it completely (ie sets the votes back to zero). I thought it was only changing the options that did this. So please boost and vote again, pretty please.

Scam call from 01 578 4968 Today I got a scam call, allegedly from the above (Dublin, Ireland) number. The caller sounded female and had a strong Indian-sounding accent. Modus operandi was SIM hijack. She claimed to be from Vodafone and said I was entitled to discounted bills as I was a good Vodafone customer. I had to keep asking her to repeat stuff - partly because I was in a noisy environment, partly due to her accent, partly because she was speaking so fast, but mainly to waste her time...

So, this "presidential review" by Fianna Fáil (AKA "how did we fuck up on our nomination?"). Would it be reasonable to say that few outside of the party faithful actually give a flying feck? I certainly don't, other than the fact that anything that makes FF (and Micheál Martin in particular) look stupid and inept is always a bonus. #MastoDaoine

PSA: Don't split your butt! For #MastoDaoine and others expecting sub-zero (Celsius) temperatures in the next few days: if you have a plastic rainwater butt, partially drain it whilst you can. Most butts are straight (cylindrical) in their mid section but taper at the top and bottom. If the tapered section at the top is even partially full and the contents freeze, the ice will expand and push upwards, which can split the butt. Drain it down to about two-thirds full, so the level is p...

DPD Ireland - worst courier in the country since the demise of Fastway. Today, DPD Ireland "delivered" a parcel. I use the term "delivered" in inverted commas because, as usual, they didn't bother to come to the front door and ring the bell (I was home), they simply dumped the box on my garden wall where it could be rained on and/or picked up by a casual thief. This is the umpteenth time parcels have simply been dumped in the garden. I've s...

As many folks know, I have three fedi accounts. This is my main one. I also have: @ratcatcher@mastodon.ie - because I live in Ireland and have connections to the team that runs it. @ratcatcher@c.im - as a sort of spare. I don't post much via these other accounts, unless beige.party is down for some reason, but by all means follow them if you wish.

#Mastodaoine Just renewed my Irish passport card online. The passport itself is good for another 5 years but for some reason passport cards only last 5 years, rather than 10. I was bracing myself for the ordeal as these things are usually frustrating from start to finish. But, no. First picture I took was accepted without issue, lots of details to enter, but all fine. Paid my €35. All done. Still a couple of gulps of coffee left.

Is https://meshmap.net/ not working at the moment? The map comes up OK but I see very few nodes (and those were last updated over 7 hours ago)? #Meshtastic
