“Insane but actually really lovely” could be a fitting description of my app, and probably of the whole idea of trying to build a sustainable business around a web browser with a silly name. (Thanks for the SO @imdavidpierce 🙏)

It's mind-boggling how clunky almost all 3rd-party iOS browsers are. Here's my little Quiche Browser vs Brave, Edge, Firefox, and Vivaldi... Look at how the photo jumps abruptly as the toolbar collapses and expands, everywhere but in Quiche Browser. Same issue in Arc Search, Opera, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, and Aloha! Almost got motion sickness recording this video, but always happy and proud to spend an unhealthy amount of time building a smoother reading experience than anywhere else.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@daringfireball/116262269285086150 So my little handmade web browser got the most wonderful feature on Daring Fireball over the weekend. Still hungover from the euphoria, and overwhelmed with gratitude for all the messages of encouragement from so many new users. Maybe there's still a future for user-funded handcrafted apps.

Great news for me as an indie browser maker: Safari is rumored to be rebuilt around AI features in iOS 27! If even Apple joins the Browser AI-Enshittification League, I can’t think of a better opportunity for Quiche Browser to stand out as the radically minimalist, no-nonsense alternative to Safari. Thanks, Apple! Keep going 💪

RE: https://indieweb.social/@tg/116086401953523135 Too rarely, an app creator breaks outdated conventions and designs their dream app from first principles to solve a problem in a radical way, instead of shipping yet another uninspired clone. And when they pair that with a thoughtful, beautiful narrative, it deserves to be celebrated. Go check out Terry’s essay. If you’re into laser-focused creators, it’s well worth your time.
