#OldPeopleOfMastodon I need your help. I'm on a canal boat trip, lots of walking, lock working etc. Every night I get woken several times with terrible leg cramps. Anyone got any tips? (Youngsters can contribute too). #Boating #Canals #Cramp #BoatsThatToot

Question for Brits, does a hosepipe ban affecting 'millions of households' according to the media also apply to allotments? Asking for a wife. And her husband tasked with carrying watering cans. #UK #water #hosepipe #gardening #allotments

@alice@lgbtqia.space Ok I'm a guy and I'm replying. I'm sorry you get this shit from others, but I don't own a gun because I'm not an American, I left Faceache about 17 years ago, I'm not gay but I reckon what other people do with their genitals is none of my business. Keep on fighting. @Janeishly@mastodonapp.uk

@mondstern the obvious for starters are Libre Office, Gimp and Inkscape if you need vector graphics beyond Libre Office capabilities. Free CAD if you design in 3D. Krita for a different take on graphics. Gnu Cash if you need to keep track of expenses and invoice people. Firefox or a Firefox based spin off browser eg Zen, Ice Wolf. Free Tube for YouTube without ads or tracking though Google keeps changing the API to break it.

@JessTheUnstill In my experience people who aren't good with technology don't realise they don't have security and privacy. And are resistant to hearing about it because it's too complicated.

Any chemists out there? Various 'lifestyle' TV shows advocate using a paste of sodium bicarbonate+vinegar as a bathroom/kitchen cleaner. My wife thinks it is a good idea. I don't. My limited knowledge of chemistry (O level, 1968) says that the bicarb will neutralise the vinegar producing CO2, H2O and sodium acetate. Which I don't think has any cleaning properties. So what's the point? #household #cleaning #chemistry

@InternetEh The real story is that many managers have no clue what the 'metrics' mean and are incapable of assessing things for themselves.

Anyone speak Hungarian? How should an English-speaker pronounce 'Magyar'? The BBC seems to swing between 'Mag Yar' with s hard 'g' and 'Ma Jar' (soft 'g'). #Hungary #Magyar

Real techies look away now. For a few years I've had a blog on a free Weebly account, mostly to recount my boating trials and tribulations on the canals in England & Wales. But inspired by posts about 'Smolweb' I decided to blog like it's 1989. The result is here: http://seren-boat.uk #BoatsThatToot #Smolweb

Until I retired I ran my own website on Wordpress. When I retired I closed that but got involved with a local boat club and helped set up their site on WP. Left that a few years ago and someone else runs it now. Consequently although I've noticed some disagreements about WordPress on here I haven't really been paying attention. What's the situation? I'm thinking of creating a new blog, is WP still a decent option? What's the TL:DR version of events? #wordp...

Age verification on internet connected devices is contentious. There's no good answer. But, California (I think) is considering a law that would mandate age verification on all operating systems and then all apps would query the user profile before granting access. But what stops dodgy Dave down the pub, or some backstreet PC shop selling devices with a fake adult ID already set? And what about the millions of devices already in the wild? #AgeVerification #security #privacy
